There are so so many of them. Which of the compilations do you have or which to you really like? I always thought the Bustin Out - Very Best of (1994) was the best one, but it's not even in print anymore. When the Gold double CD came out, I bought it assuming it was Bustin Out repackaged, but it's not. Then there's the Anthology (2002), another double, which is different still.
So which one is your fave?

I have the Bustin' Out compilation from 94 and it is really good. I've consiered getting some of the others, but refuse to keep buying the same songs over and over.

Most of them contain the same songs, however, many of them focus on single edits and/or album versions. I don't know of any that have different 12in mixes.

I don't have any of his comps, but I do have every RJ album on vinyl, I make my own RJ comps

I have the 1994 2-CD 'Bustin Out' compilation,which I really enjoy.I also have the 2-disc 'Anthology' set.I bought it because it contains several tracks that weren't included on the previous set (such as "Loosey's Rap" and "Sweet And Sexy Thing").


It's a shame that these compilations never include "High On Your Love" (suite) from the 'Bustin Out Of L7' album.At this point,we don't need any more compilations.I want to have all the studio albums,remastered with bonus tracks.

I also have this compilation,which is really cool.Some of these songs are extremely rare and can't be found anywhere else.It's worth it for the two Val Young songs,which are excellent.She was one of Rick's most underrated proteges.

I have this compilation and on the surface,it looks like an outstanding set...a perfect overview of Rick's musical career,right?.But looks can be deceiving This set is has several flaws.

First of all,why does every compilation only include one song from 'Bustin Out Of L7',which is one of Rick's strongest albums? "High On Your Love" was actually a single in 1979 and while it didn't become a huge hit, it's a great song that really should have been included here.

This set features a few non-singles from 'Garden Of Love',which isn't one of Rick's strongest albums.Wouldn't it have made sense to remove one of those tracks,and include the fan favorite "Spacey Love" instead?! I have no problem with non-singles being included on compilations,just as long as it's a fan favorite or an important album track.Whenever fans talk about their favorite Rick James slow jams,"Spacey Love" is always mentioned.

"Big Time" is included here (rightfully so),but the version here is somewhat different than the superior version on the 'Bustin Out' compilation.Same song,just a different,lame mix/edit,lacking the "punch" of the original version.

"Sweet And Sexy Thing" is a nice addition,but as is the case with "Big Time",it's not the original version.It's missing the entire second verse! Sounds like an edited remix,focusing more on the music as opposed to the vocals.

Besides Street Songs, I swear all of those comps listed by daPrettyman are the only thing I ever saw at the store.

I took this news from another forum:
"Hip-O will release "Fire It Up" as well as "Garden Of Love" on cd on May 18! I'm especially excited about GOL , as it is his most underrated album ever!"

I heard some songs from that album on youtube and they weren't that hot. Just seach for "Rick James Kickin". "Great White Cane" is what I want.
