i have posted a few times about simple minds ... i think i saw this youtube but i never clicked on it cus i thought it would be a train wreck or something .... but i actually did now and i liked it ...

i still like the guitars by Prince better ... esp the sign of the times movie version ... but ... its NOT bad ... imo .

I had the privilege of growing up in college just as Simple Minds was getting popular ... so i heard many of their popular songs (in europe) before the "breakfast club" song came out - "dont u forget about me " ... the follow up album by them (which kinda launched them here in the US ) - I thought it was good - true to their sound - altho alot of their fans think they "sold out" i think ... they remind me alot of REM in that their fans say they "soldout " once they became big ...

I remember hearing "new gold dream" and "speed your love to me" and "up on the catwalk" blaring in the dormitories (due to a friend who was really into Simple Minds )-- then of course - came "dont you forget about me " and ... well ... this band kinda hit the stratisphere for a time ... I like them .

wink
Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

I've heard the cover. It's not that great for me. Simple Minds was a great band.

Alive & Kicking
Sanctify Yourself
(Don't You) Forget About Me
All The Things She Said

...and others - all great songs.

So we can't post a cover video but we can link to it? I want to know because I posted Adam Lambert's "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" and damn near got banned for it. What's the deal, pickle?

Oh, no. It's not you!! lol I'm just a little confused on the rules is all...

hmmm

Someone had mentioned that Prince and Adam Lambert should work together and I asked the OP had he heard Adam's version of HCUDCMA on youtube and posted it. Well it got snipped and of course the "We'll ban you if you do it again" message. shrug

I damn-near got banned for posting a choral version of HCUDCMA also. They'll probably just snip the link.

This is a bad sounding upload of the original release before someone put the kibosh on it.
There is a re-recorded version mixed in surround sound that "simply" kills.

Simple Minds was one of the first bands I got "into" in a big way, and whilst listening to them now is 80% nostalgia 20% enjoyment in the here and now, I do think they did some great stuff.

My favourite album is probably Sparkle In The Rain - some great high energy power pop rock. Even though that description in itself would be enough to put ME off, never mind anyone else! It's good though. Trust me.

I liked that they changed a lot of their songs when they played them live - keeping things interesting.

Since their heyday they've done very little that's worth investigating until last year's Grafitti Soul, which I do rate.

Their version of the Prince classic sucks though!
This is not an exit
