The new album is entitled I'm New Here and it was released in stores and digitally today on February 9th. Let me tell you all, it is stunning. When I mean stunning, I mean STUNNING. I have to say that Gil Scott-Heron has finally arrived to the new century and his message is just as relevant as it was back in 1969. The production mixes the modern with the classic and it has a very adventurous edge to it. I just can't describe it but one must listen with a clear mind. 'Me & The Devil' and 'New York is Killing Me' ranks up there with Gil's best work.

Bought it this aftertoon. Love it. It's good to hear some new Gil.

30 minutes of this trumps hours of most drivel currently available.
Contemporary "rappers" specifically (and youngblood recording artists in general) should take a few lessons.

a) First and foremost, have something to say worth listening to.
b) Keep it short and sweet (just like the best Pop songwriters do).

The problem is, they're generally not that deep or disciplined.

Perhaps the appetite for the latter-day career resurrection is indicative of the way the market for rock and pop music has changed in recent years. Once, it was strictly the province of the young who wanted their own music - why would they care what became of the faded star that time had passed by? - and weren't interested in the past and its stars. These days, the audience has altered; we live in an age when the middle-aged album buyer wields perhaps more influence than his kids, not least beccause he's more likely to actually buy some albums rather than steal them off the internet.

This reminds me of something Barry Adamson would do.

One of the most beautiful voices in.. well, whatever spectrum you want to place this man in; to me, he is impossible to place in one particular corner.

His message. His influence on so many different musical styles and artists. But what matters to me most; the combination of that voice and those words. Minister of Information to some, to me he is one of the best poets in the world, his words flow like no other MC I know, except maybe Q-Tip.

Most of the cats here know him, I'm sure. The peeps in the Prince: Music And More-forum know him cuz Prince borrowed Scott-Heron's most famous song title for one of his songs.

And he made a new record. First in ages. He's been gone too long. I am so, so glad he's back.

Hell yes im getting this-the long awaited cd of BRIDGES should be in every mans collection

I hope he's healthy enough 2 perform!!!!! The man put on a FANTASTIC show!!!!! I saw him in '95 at a small club in Buffalo. Real Music is needed TOO MUCH these days!!!!!
