My vote is for Lady Tee. U can tell that it's a heartfelt tribute. It wasn't meant for commercial consumption or to make the Top 10. Lady Tee is a class act all the way! If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

I don't know why some of y'all are puking lol
Love 'em both, can't choose. They're both dedicated to this man anyway:

Diana's tribute is so heartfelt. I love her vocals, she’s so expressive (reminds me of Janet) without the unnecessary wailing that most singers think is soulful.
TBH, the second song is cringe-worthy. Melisma overload. Yikes!

I think Marvin Gaye has the most tribute songs about him or song references about him than any other artists. If I'm wrong, tell me who's the other artist.
I love Lady T, but I have to go with Missing You, Diana did something really Marvin-sque, she took a song and just made it her own, you would've thought she wrote it herself. Marvin used to do the same thing, that's why he was such a genius.

For you new listeners of Dear Mr. Gaye, are you listening to the entire song? Cause it kicks into one mean arse fierce jam/groove...for that alone I rate it higher than Ms. Ross' whom I adore to. Space for sale...

Hate 'em both (as artists), can't choose. Music for adventurous listeners tA Tribal Records I know that you like Diana with The Supremes better than as a solo artist. But why do you dislike Teena (besides that you're not a huge fan of soul screamers)?

Not true, I love the classic Soul Shouters. Outside of a few tunes, I just don't like her. Nothing personal, she just doesn't do it for me. It's funny, you see certain terms constantly hurled at other popular female R&B vocalists around here like screamers/screechy/over-singing, which could very easily be applied to her. But for whatever the reason, she gets a pass. And that's fine for those that like her. Again, she just doesn't appeal to me. Both!

Teena gets my vote all day everyday There was but one person who criticized Lady T(ranny)'s ballads, and that was me. Feel absolutely free to single me out on this. She tries too hard to prove herself on ballads. She needs somebody to take those wild vocal tangents she goes on. Too, too much. I get it...you're down, Teena. I loved MikeMatronik's response the first time he heard her Portuguese Love, criticizing her pronunciation of the word. SOS - I'm familiar with the tune and know it goes more uptempo in the latter half, but still the first part puts me off.

Music for adventurous listeners tA Tribal Records Teena earned my respect, not a pass. That's a huge difference. Same thing goes for Aretha, Patti, Chaka, Taylor, & Christina. I love female soul screamers. When they "scream" OR hit those long notes, it's as if they are singing for me (as a fan) and their god and not for themselves. The only female vocalist that doesn't get a pass from me is Janis Joplin, but that's only because she used to sing (and I say "sing" loosely) and scream like a truck driver!

If you really want to know the kind of power vocalist Teena really is, listen to THAT track.

Lady Tee is a proven, accomplished, MASTER composer, writer, producer, arranger and performer with the voice 2 boot. Diana Ross is as weak as a vocalist can ever aspire to be. Case in point: The one time I ever heard this woman belt was in The Wiz when she performed "Home." Talk about "cringe-worthy." Teena also recently just picked up the R&B Foundation's Legend Award and although neither has ever received a Grammy, it's 100% clear who the true singer really is. I ain't hatin'. I'm reLATIN'. Aight? Aight. Y'all feel me? Peace. Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.
