lol so? WTF does that have to do with anything?

The statement I was commenting on was this: "Seriously though, one thing you need to remember is that Janet was the first r&b/pop/dance female black artist."

Last time I checked, Donna is black and female.

She had 18 Top 40 pop hits, 24 Top 40 Dance Hits, and 26 Top 40 R&B hits before "Control" was released.

ahhh gotcha, so what you meant to say was: "Seriously though, one thing you need to remember is that Janet was the first r&b/pop/dance female black artist who danced up a storm in her music videos."

Too bad Tina Turner just stood there on stage like a statue. If only Janet had been around to show her the way.... lol

NoVideo has some issue with Janet.Idk what it is. He's always trying to downplay her talent and success. I think he's butt hurt.

Janet is the first pop/R&b/dance/rock black female artist cool

Let me give a scenario that I've always found implausible. It's the, "ohhh, everybody thought Madonna was black when she first came out" theory. Now, soulealive will post this bit o history till he's blue yet I didn't think this nor did I know anyone who did...however, that's how these pop culture references go. I'd be acting like a two year old if I tried to discredit soul and others remembrance of history.

So tell me, how do you like appearing to others?

Everybody I knew thought Madonna was black when they first heard Holiday, and before the Borderline and Lucky Star videos started getting wide airplay lol

Stating Janet Jackson wasn't the first pop/dance/R&B black female artist isn't a matter of denying someone's rememberance of history - it's just a matter of correcting a factual misstatement, something that happens all the time on forums dedicated to the discussion of music. That's all. cool

Yeah, but you haven't disproved anything. Tina didn't have choreographed and back up dancers in her video. Stop acting like a two year old...come on! lol

There was a hole show on MTV back in the late 80s were they discussed all all the pop/r&b/dance female artist that Janet inspired (or that they considered greenlit by studios due to Janet's popularity). They showed videos of Jody, Shanice, Nia Peeples, Karen White and Paula Abdul. Me thinks your butthurt and just need to move along.

Mods please lock
It's gotten way off topic which happens on occasion but when
it becomes a daily thread about which dance divas are better it's ridiculous.
The thread is supposed to be about Jody Watley's song Still
a Thrill and not about dance divas who are supposedly better
or not better than Jody Watley.

Ch....Madonna doesn't sing like a black girl. She wishes confused

You can't even spell remembrance right so I highly doubt you know what you're talking about. lol Janet is the first pop/dance/R&B and even rock black female artist. What other black female artist was doing Janet before Janet? Nobody.

lol Your original statement had nothing to do with dancing, period. You said "one thing you need to remember is that Janet was the first r&b/pop/dance female black artist." Period.

Then when I pointed out that was a ridiculous statement, you changed what you had originally tried to say and inserted dancing ability into the equation, as if that is an essential requirement for a r&b/pop/dance female black artist.

I like Janet well enough as I've said many times before, but to say that Janet was the first is doing a disservice to all of the incredible black female artists that came before her.

Janet was the first black female artist that put all of those ingredients together and danced to(excellently I might add). She is a pioneer and an icon.........

Janet made it a standard for female artists to have some sort of dancing ability.

FYI, Donna Summers isn't the first R&B/Pop/Dance black female artist. What a ridiculous thing to say.

Hey, NoVideo, if you find yourself getting into internet fights for no apparent reason, just walk away. It's the constant feeling inside, that you have to get the last word in, that will do you in again and again.

Um, nope. Never said that. cool Donna Summer is just one illustration that - gasp - there were in fact black female pop/dance/R&B artists before Janet Jackson burst onto the scene.

Diana Ross is another, as another poster noted.

Tina Turner. Patti LaBelle. Chaka Khan. The list goes on.

So you're retracting your comment now? lol

Donna Summers and Janet Jackson are completely different artists. Different styles of music and even image.

The same goes for Diana Ross, Tina Turner, etc.

I believe that's what you're lacking. You posted a picture of Donna Summers to indicate that she was the first black female Pop/R&B/Dance artist. Admit to your fault and keep it moving.

+ You read sosogemini and KCOOLMUSIQ's posts out of context.
