Jody Watley - Still A Thrill

This is my FAVORITE video by Jody. It was so funky and cool when it came out and it still is. As a young girl, I wanted to be Jody after seeing this video! They served it. I usually watch the remix video, too, but this is my favorite. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Jody.....always top shelf in the style department.
Worthy of note.....Andre during this period (as writer & producer)...never got his props, IMHO. Nice work.....the whole "Larger Than Life" album, too. Funk Is It's Own Reward

What a juicy piece of Minneapolis funk. I remember people dancin their ass off to this back in the day. Great artist and killer track.

The track was killer. It was Andre at his best and like the deep register he had Jody sing. But I always felt in some parts in this video. She was jackin Janet Jackson. I like the black & white then color part of it. But Janet did Rhythm Nation long form video in black & White to..But she looked good . She is a beautiful woman still is.... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

I've never seen that. It's like Janet Jackson circa 1814 invaded The Witches of Eastwick. hahaha

I've always loved this song and video. Great stuff from Miss Jody Watley.

Never realized there was a video for it. Totally agree with the comments no it being a very good example of Minn, Funk as well as the video being a combo of RN1814 and "Witches of Eastwick". She is beautiful and talented but in the video department, not always the most memorable.

I think what people dont give credit too, is the fact that this was the sound of the day, and sorry to say, and i know people will cry over it, it was the reason Janet got "Control" recognized, it was the right choice of direction at the right time, not so much about the material, which was stellar too, but alot of Stellar material goes unnoticed as we all know "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Umm Control was released months before Jody's album in 86. Looking for a New Love was released near the end of 86 but Jody's full debut album wasn't released until 87. Don't laugh at my funk

Every dance queen that came out after Janet was copy cats. Every new black woman singing after Janet danced and wore curly weaves.. Janet started all of that. Even her choreographer Paula Abdul came out doin it. Only difference it was really her hair she was throwing around...lol will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! They just happened to be from Minneapolis. I'm not even into the whole who could dance better thing between Janet and Jody. The point is no one could accuse Jody of sounding like Janet because Cymone's sound was different from Jam and Lewis. Don't laugh at my funk

Everything was minnie at that point, if you were from their regardless of differences in sound, you got the pass, like i said Ta Mara and the seen in the top 20? give me a break that will never happen in any other time "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Lawl. I was about to say that! She copied Janet a lot once Control blew up. Well, a lot of the female artists at the time did.

Jody's great. Have no idea why people are babbling on about her copying Janet when she actually wasn't. Just because you have a curly black weave doesn't mean you are ripping of Janet. Jody's sound on her debut was both poppier/dancier (Most of All, Don't You Want Me, Some Kind of Lover) and funkier (Still a Thrill, Looking For a New Love) than Control. She had a sound of her own. [Edited 2/13/10 16:56pm] I'm not downing Jody. She had a very successful career. She started off as a soul train dancer, Then turned that into singing in a very successful crossover group Shalamar...Then went on to have two very successful albums as a solo artist. I'm just pointing out that Janet help open the door for her and a million other singer/dancer type artist. Janet was the trendsetter and needs to be credited for that and not forgotten... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

[Edited 2/13/10 16:56pm] Talk about being in denial AHA! Her self-titled album was a complete rip-off of Control and her label really did push her to be the next Janet. She was a part of a formula. So no she never had her own sound or style.

I only like her in Shalamar(Even though she is better by herself)

Jody was dope! This happens to be one of my favorites from her. I've always loved her lower register on it. Very funky joint! Andre was on fire with his production. To this day, I still can't decide which song I love more this or "Don't You Want Me."
Oh, her fashion sense was bananas too!

Do you really believe that? That's like saying no other young black recording female artist can co-exist in a Beyonce dominated world or a Janet couldn't exist and sale during Madonna's peak. That as we know, is just not true. I don't subscribe to only one artist can succeed at a time. Maybe she just peaked early in her career.

Madonna's peak was before Janet even debuted with Control. I agree with what truiopian said. Jody Watley was pushed to be the next Janet by her label. Reason why she had Andre Cymone (From the whole Minneapolis funk movement) produce her album. Janet started it and she followed. It's no shade. Just the honest truth. Beyonce now is basically how Janet was in late 80's and 90's. Where's Ashanti? Ciara? Amerie? Christina Millian?
