I'm so glad they're making a documentary for the man. He's def one of the unsung genuises in music(and I don't say that about anybody sense credibility is thrown loosely nowadays)

He's def one of my top 5 arrangers/producers. The stuff he did for EW&F are great, but he truly showed off his chops in Minnie Riperton's Come To My Garden.

Wow,,,,thats heavy. I didn't know the family's condition and what happend to them and on his VERY passing day at that, I wanna say I'm shocked but stuff like these are not strange coming from some of the industry people.

Check out this scene from the 1975 movie 'That's The Way Of The World'.This is a Charles Stepney composition that's being recorded by the fictional group "The Paiges".Although it's supposed to be considered cheesy,I actually like this song boxed

music
Rotary Connection, Minnie Riperton, EWF, The Dells, Terry Callier, Muddy Waters, Ramsey Lewis, The Emotions, Deniece Williams...

That's a helluva soundtrack.

I've been listening to a lot of his work from the aforementioned artist over the weekend, due in part to funkpill's Terry Callier thread.

Someone who definitely deserves acknowledgement as one of the great "behind the scenes" musical entities.

As usual, it appears it was the international community that first showed respect and helped to keep his contributions alive after his passing.

One of my biggest musical heroes!
Definitely time for his storty to be told! His work with Rotary Connection, Minnie, Earth Wind and Fire, Terry Callier, and Ramsey Lewis still resonates...

And yeah, the major props have always came from across the pond. They have been doing so much to keep his work available over the years...

He's got some nice features in his "Soul Arranger" series.
(Gene Page, Jerry Peters, Richard Evans along with Charles Stepney)
