What is it about Sade?

I was just thinking about this last night. She is one of the only artists that has not changed with the times in terms of image. As we all know Madonna really inspired the whole idea of re-invention. Showcasing a new look with every album. Many artists have followed suit since, such as Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, etc. Sade has worn her hair in the exact same style for her entire career, with the exception of the Diamond Life album. Same ruby red lipstick and dresses with long slits on the sides. It's just interesting because I think most of female artists could not get away with this. I've heard fans complain that Mary J. Blige always has blonde hair and never any other shade but at least she has changed other aspects of her look. How come it's ok for Sade and no one else? I'm not complaining, it's just an observation. She is drop dead gorgeous!

hmmm I'm guessing that when you make non-trendy, timeless music as your first priority (and not your image), then you don't have to worry about reinventing yourself every year.

Well, most of the artists you listed are pop stars. In my opinion, you are more of a "product" when you are a pop star. The public eventually gets tired of the old "product" so the artists will change to keep people enticed. Sade isn't a pop star. Sade also stays out of the media spotlight, for the most part. She doesn't give the public a chance to get tired of her like Beyonce.
