Howard Stern said on his satellite radio show on Monday that Fox is considering him as a possible replacement for Simon Cowell when American Idol’s tenth season begins in 2011. “There’s not a better job on the planet than judging that f—ing karaoke contest,” The Wrap quotes Stern as saying. He added, “They’d have to pay me a ton of dough because I already make a ton of dough.” The shock jock was responding to a New York Post report from last Friday suggesting that he is the leading candidate to replace Cowell on the show’s judging panel in 2011. Stern’s $500 million five-year contract with Sirius XM expires at the end of this year. Cowell announced last month he will not return to Idol next year, and will instead bring his X-Factor singing competition to Fox’s fall 2011 schedule.

Stern would not elaborate this morning on the status of his negotiations with Idol, saying, “I’m not going to comment about any discussions I might or might not have had.” Last week, a source close to the show discussed the Stern rumors with EW, saying “the search has just begun, nor are there any front-runners at this time.” Furthermore, “nobody’s going to be offered a job [as a permanent Idol judge] for a while,” the source added. “We’re doing a very thorough search.” A call to Stern’s rep was not returned.

I think it's strange to replace a "singer"/dancer with a comedienne, and a music producer with a talk radio host.

But I can say Howard would make me tune in as much as Simon

Exactly. You have to listen to Howard to understand Howard. Yes he's bagged on a lot of people I like but he's like that with everybody. He's fair. He's not racist, far from it and he's just naturally hilarious and sarcastic. It's hard to explain you have to listen to him.

Its the easy thing to call Howard a racist but he is nowhere even close, like him or not. I doubt he will get this gig mainly because he will be too truthful, you thought Simon was brutal, shit, you aint seen nothing yet

Yeah i noticed that from the few times i watched, he practically told that one girl from two seasons ago (i forget her name, but it was the year after Kat Mcphee) he told her basically to keep showing skin and her legs? surprised no fem-organizations had issues with that line of talk.

I haven't watched the show for at least the last 5 seasons (and won't).
But if this truly comes to pass, hopefully Stern will retain some of his edge, not become a network suckup, and give the truly talentless what for.

Somebody has to do it with Simon exiting.

he's not going anywhere. he's playing quiet hardball during his own contract negotions with Sirius by talking about other job offers.

This show should just bow out.

He's not going to be the judge. Period. This is a rumor, and unfounded.
