For a late 1980s slow song, it was OK. Definately better than 90% of the other slow stuff that was out during that era.

Never cared much for that song, but for some reason I was singing Rocket 2 U all day yesterday. I guess I knew it was time for a Jets thread. We have a new New Edition thread, so it only makes sense that the Jets, RFTW, Full Force, and all other 80s groups follow. Watch.

Loved their first album and them in general.

I went to a concert at Great Adventure in NJ in the summer of 86 or 87 and saw them perform live (Alisha opened!) I always thought they were "Prince-like" and as encore they did I Would Die 4 U/Baby I'm A star very much in the vein of the Purple Rain tour. I was really impressed with their musicanship (they were their own band).

I always wondered how the older girl held down all those keys parts herself.

Last year someone told me they were playing to DAT tapes . . . . now I wonder if that's true or not.

Well I was just watching the "Crush On You" video and I reckon by the sounds The Jets oughta be lined up at drum machine modules and synths like Kraftwerk but they look like a band in the video.

"I Do You" is my favorite uptempo song by them."Make It Real" and "Anytime" are two excellent ballads."Rocket 2 U" is catchy and alot of fun."Cross My Broken Heart" is another cool uptempo track.

Interestingly,"Rocket 2 U" was offered to Earth Wind and Fire for their reunion album 'Touch The World'.They turned it down and it was given to the Jets.

In retrospect,EW&F made the right choice.It's a great song,but a little too "bubblegum" for grown men to be singing,lol.

speaking of rejected songs....Prince offered the Jets a song "Neon Telephone" for their second album,but they turned it down.

I felt bad that the Jets faded away so quickly I have a 1987 article/interview with them (just before the release of the second album) and apparently,they had alot of projects planned:

*They had a development deal with Disney for two movies,one of which was described as a "spy comedy/musical".

*There was talk of an animated Saturday morning cartoon

*Solo albums by several group members


For some reason,these plans were cancelled and by 1990,the group was already considered 'over'.It's a tough business!
