Rick later pointed out, with some irony, that MTV had no problem playing songs that he wrote and produced for other artists lol Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time" (which featured Rick in the video) was all over MTV in 1985,as was The Mary Jane Girls' "In My House" video.

MTV execs probably flipped ouot when he caught him in Party All The Time lol

WHAT! how did he slip in this muthafucka?!

There used to be a rumor that the only reason they played Prince in 1982 was because they knew Rick hated him. lol

I asked some people who remember MTV in '82 about Prince showing him and they felt they probably played his videos because they didn't know what he was lol

I didn't have MTV until years later (it was a premium cable channel back then) but I had always assumed the first Prince video they played was "Little Red Corvette" which would have made more sense since it was more of a rock tune. I read somewhere in recent years though, that the first Prince video they played was "1999" which definately makes me wonder if they intentionally wanted to piss Rick off because "Super Freak" has a much more pop/rock feel than "1999".
