Back in Da Day: The Whispers - "(Olivia) Lost & Turned Out" The Whispers' deceptively mellow track about the tragedy of prostitution. From the 1978 album "Headlights". Olivia the slave Got distracted on her way To grandmother's house A wolf in nice clothing came Blew her mind and changed her ways And now she's turned out Lost and turned out Lost and turned out She's spending most of her time Walking the streets She has a certain quota to fill He wants to buy a new Seville Olivia the slave Got distracted on her way To grandmother's house A wolf in nice clothing came Blew her mind and changed her ways And now she's turned out Lost and turned out Lost and turned out What is the world coming to So many are used and abused There's over ten million girls Who are alone in this world What will your kin folks say Olivia the slave It must be breaking their hearts in two Listen close they're calling you (Olivia, Olivia) Olivia the slave Got distracted on her way To grandmother's house A wolf in nice clothing came Blew her mind and changed her ways And now she's turned out Lost and turned out Olivia, where's your will She's lost and turned out Don't buy that guy no Seville Lost and turned out Olivia the slave Lost and turned out Don't let him drag you to your grave Lost and turned out Olivia, where's your mind Lost and turned out He pulls you down all the time Lost and turned out Olivia, stop and think Lost and turned out He's taking your cash to his bank Lost and turned out Olivia, break your chains Lost and turned out Stop using your body and use your brain Lost and turned out [Edited 2/8/10 16:26pm]

And the beat goes on and on and on. Hey I just thought of something else...they have moustaches like Mr. Larry Graham. Any relation?

classic soul from 1978 This is the tune that began their late 70s hot streak that lasted well into the 80s.
I have the 'Headlights' album on vinyl.

Great song! Of course it wasn't until many years later when I actually paid attention to the lyrics, that I learned what it was about. :whispers: Olivia Olivia Olivia. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

Their last hit was "Innocent" which was on Capitol. Their current output is very good still, but it is kind of lacking in production. Nicholas Caldwell is still a great songwriter. He is so overlooked as a great songwriter in r&b history. His ballads are timeless. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
