Rihanna's "Controversial" Bodysuit I saw this on the Comcast homepage this morning. Apparently her latest fashion statement - an asymmetrical bodysuit - is creating some controvery. (link below). I guess I'm a bit jaded, but I keep seeing ripoffs of Prince's style when it comes to Rihanna and actually Chris Brown too.
1. Didn't Sheila E. rock something almost identical (in form) to this during the SOTT era? 2. Rihanna has a single called "Rude Boy". I know that's not a Prince trademark, but he had that association in the early 80s. 3. Chris Brown's latest album is called Graffiti. That alone is a similarity, but the worst offense is that it's in the Purple Rain font - and I bet kids think it's absolutely original. Here's the link to the bodysuit - can't find any of Sheila's for comparison. http://www.comcast.net/vi...405765602/

Actually Sheila E was going a more controversial suit during the Purple Rain tour with the strategically placed sequins on a body suit. Her outfits were only less glitterfied for SOTT, but still as sexy (and she's a lot damn hotter now than Rihanna is today).
And since when is Rihanna "known for her edgy fashion"???? The media is utter nonsense.

Umm yeah this is nothing new. Sheila E. has already rocked this outfit.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I saw that bodysuit yesterday and instantly thought of Sheila E.!
What's so controversial about it?? She's wearing more than many of her magazine covers and videos lately... How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

That was just a promo piece for her. There's nothing edgy about that outfit. Her nude pics in the hotel with Chris - that was edgy. We know she put them out to one up Cassie, who dropped her nude pics just a couple of days or so earlier.
Note to Rihanna: This is "edgy" Anything Cher wears is edgy. Raiding Sheila E.'s closet ain't edgy.

Who in this day and age called it controversial??? 99% of these things start because someone in the artists camp feeds a rumour that someone deemed it controversial to the wastezoids over at PerezHilton and TMZ. Im almost guaranteeing that the controversy was started by her people and her facebook and twitter bullshit nonsense "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Rihanna's hairstylist Ursula Stevens mentioned in a past Essence article that she wanted to take Rihanna's hair in a Sheila E /Lisa Lisa 80'S direction so the clothes would follow... I am sure they go through old photos for inspiration

So Rihanna when you do something "cutting edge" or Controversial CALL ME, till then stop having your twitter and facebook people tell me what you think you are. That's exactly what I thought when folks started posting those pictures. There's a HUGE line between edgy and looking like a hooker at the point.
