Listening to it now, I enjoyed human drama.

I only heard of David Bazan for his excellent song "Bless this Mess" but Bad things happen to good people, that was EXCELLENT! that ones headed straight for my Ipod! so far your mix gets a big thumbs up! thanks!

WOW! this is EXACTLY a project..being a Fan of MUSIC.. I can appreciate.

NoVideo.. I HAVE to tell u.... The Mix.. really HIT. I felt the enthusiasm and emotion put into it.. I once again want to make mixed CDs for my close friends wink

The one song that was the MOST influential to me was Brand New's "Jesus Christ".. Immediately after hearing your mix I was on Itunes buying that song...Tonight at the bar I found it on the jukebox.. especially having a family member who's terminally sick.. I could put what.. IF I were in that situation...This song could Probably be the thoughts I would have..Emotionally draining, and a damn good song.. Thank u for sharing music.. I'm really excited about this project!

So interesting….. I just came out of my school weekend 2 weekends ago. In case you didn't know I'm in a Masters program for Spiritual Psychology. This past month we explored 2 different therapy approaches, one of which is Gestalt. In Gestalt therapy, you give a feeling a voice. I gave voice to something I have never spoken of before, but which I am completely familiar with. This voice was desperation and it is connected to death, my relationships with men. The overall arching theme is loss.

As I gave voice to this desperation, I saw it at the very bottom of a well. It was encased in a golden capsule. This well was zig-zagged so if you shined a light into the well you'd only see the very first zig in the wall. You'd never be able to see the bottom of the well, likewise at the bottom of the well you'd not be able to see the light. Then as I was trying to explain this further to another student, I said that I saw this golden capsule at the bottom of the ocean floor where there is no light and where there are all these creatures that people have never seen. That I have never seen. I left the weekend feeling very disconnected and with a bit of fear.

The next night I had a dream that I was at the beach and the Golden Capsule had washed up on shore….. It's just SO FITTING this would be the mix that mirrors my current experience clapping This is reaching for elevation, up from the depths. That cover is brilliant.

I can't tell you the kind of liberation I felt listening to this mix. There is such freedom for me in this mix. It reminds me how much great music is out there yet to discover. I'm typically not drawn towards the general genre you're working with but I just love this mix. I have never heard of anyone except for Mercury Rev and I bought Deserter's Songs on the suggestion of a very interesting character in my life. I would never have bought that album except for his recommendation.

I tend to gravitate towards more joyous music, however there is no denying the darkness that can be a part of life. The thing that comes clear in all these songs is a pure core. At the center of the darkness or suffering or pain there is a truth that needs to be heard. I can hear so much soul searching in this music.

Sirens - This is my favorite song by far. Just NO WAY with this song faint I have played this over and over and over. It is FANTASTIC! clapping worship

Something in your face, set the Sirens free.... God how I want a man that has that kind of power mushy

Thank you for participating in this project! hug

hug You are awesome. I am very glad you liked it, especially Sirens. Love the atmosphere and feeling behind that song. It's enigmatic... I can't tell if he brought her to sadness, love or madness, heh. Maybe all of them.

I totally understand what you mean about liberation with a project like this. It's really nice to be able to hear what other people put together and get exposed to things that I wouldn't normally ever have the chance to hear. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't, but I've been exposed to some incredible music through mixed CDs and tapes that friends have given me, and through online projects like this.

I love more upbeat, joyous music too (especially Prince, of course, and lots of cheesy 80's pop!) But when an artist reaches deep into the soul and lets out something so cathartic and gut wrenching, it's incredible to me. It's music like the songs on this mix that really captures me. Soul-searching, very apt description. One of the strongest threads that tied these songs together for me was that uncertainty, the tension, fear and hope on a thread. I wish I had the ability to write songs like these, or perform. Truly magic, and many of them by artists that are not widely known and appreciated.

Anyway... thanks again for listening. Can't wait to hear your mix, and everybody else's biggrin

I loved your mix. I had never heard many of these artists before so thanks for enlightening me. Azure Ray and Mercury Rev stood out to me the most although I very much enjoyed the lyrics of the song, "Sirens" as well. "Rise" put me in this very chill mood and I just wanted to sit, drink coffee, and write. "Nite & Fog" was my most favorite. They lyrics painted Burton-esqe pictures in my mind as you've already suggested. "Osiris and Orion were your favorites..." For some reason, that line just stayed in my head. "Sirens" was just a beautiful song. I felt the depth of the emotion from the lyrics. Such love. Great mix! smile

Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for taking the time to listen biggrin

I agree, with Sirens, I really feel the emotion strong. There's a great live version on YouTube that is worth checking out. Raw performance but I really like it.

I just love her voice love I have put this on my "to do" list of things to get. I want to support them very badly.

I'm not a musical expert so I have no idea how to point out which guitar style I'm referring to but it's the sound you often hear in Country music a lot and one that cements most of the ties I have to country music. I love that that is the sound that is the foundation for this track mushy Look to PJ Harvey/John Parrish "Passionless, Pointless" as an example of that sound I'm referring to smile

They have a new CD coming out in March, and their myspace page is updated fairly often: http://www.myspace.com/lostpatrol. I like this description from their bio: "Characterized by twangy-ethereal electric guitars, lush acoustic twelve strings, deep synth textures, and sirenic vocals, their cinematic mish-mash of sounds has clear connections to the band’s bottomless well of influences - yet the music of The Lost Patrol is a unique amalgamation unto its own."

Here is a snippet of a review I wrote for NBC-4 in Washington a few years back for their "Launch and Landing" album, which pretty much describes how I feel about them biggrin

"Ethereal, mysterious, achingly beautiful... New York-area indie-rockers The Lost Patrol have been operating under the radar for years, releasing a string of terrific albums. Perfect for perhaps a David Lynch film, or maybe, better yet, for sitting outside on a warm night gazing at stars. "Sirens" is one of the most unforgettable tracks of 2007."

Although it's not the type of material I would normally listen to, I enjoyed the group of tunes you put together.

Good set with Rise probably being my favorite.

I have several of his albums - this song is from his most recent (and last), "At The Cut" which came out in 2009. I'd probably recommend starting there. "West of Rome" is considered as possibly his best, but pretty much anything you can get your hands on is going to be good. I need to fill out my collection. There was also the Sweet Relief II compilation which featured cover versions of his songs by a wide variety of artists - a charity CD to help pay for artists like Vic who had medical issues and no insurance.

Very cool. I'll look for these three first.

hey all, don't mean to bump this thread, but for those interested in The Lost Patrol, they have a terrific new album out called "Dark Matter". It's out on CDBaby this week and will hit iTunes in the next couple weeks. Since some of you really liked "Sirens", just wanted to point it out. It's very very good.
