Has Santana done it?
Thank you. I was thinking of Santana, too. I could see Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Eric Clapton, Earth, Wind & Fire as well. Lionel Richie can't hold his notes anymore, otherwise he might fit the bill. I would love Sly & the Family Stone, but there's little chance of that...

Also, I didn't see Queen Latifah but Carrie Underwood sucked ass to me. I don't know anyone who liked her version of the anthem. She sounded forced and with an unpleasant tone. Plus, she went completely flat at the end. You can keep that, Carrie.

The Who just made me want to watch some CSI. In fact, CSI was the #1 trending topic on twitter after their set; I'm sure CBS was thrilled with them as a halftime act. lol

"I understand. It's a TV show. Cameras were everywhere," he added. "I was so blinded that I couldn't see."

Daltrey, 65, said those in the stadium weren't exactly into the five-song medley of their greatest hits either.

"I really wished the crowd would have gotten into singing the songs with us more. That's how it is in Europe for our soccer matches. I wanted more banter,
" he complained.

Maybe to put some perspective on all this, it would be interesting to note that this year's Super Bowl just broke a 27 year old viewership record previously held by the final M.A.S.H. episode.

I'm guessing this was due in large part to having 2 very good teams participating, one of which carried the emotional weight of a city, some sections of which are still suffering from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina.

My take is that the vast majority of viewers could care less who performs during halftime.
To think that this musical component is more than just a minor diversion for folks watching on TV is a stretch.
At best, it's probably an additional selling point (a very small one) for those that will actually purchase tickets to attend the game.

I think you're right. This is why I think they should just get someone good rather than try to get legendary acts like the Who. Most people will watch it because the TV is on that channel already, so it doesn't much matter who it is, but it might as well be good.

Yes, the point being "good" based on whose tastes? wink

They're going to cater to the perceived tastes of those footing the bill.
My guess is that will be the ticket and commerical time buyers.

True, it's an impossible question "who is good?"

my point is simply that the Who is not picked because they are still good, necessarily. Same with the Stones, McCartney. I'm not saying they suck but they are picked for legendary status, not because people are talking about what they are doing now. It would be nice to see some performers in their prime.

But in the end it's a football game, not a concert, so it doesn't much matter that it has artistic integrity

I'll take ancient has-been legends (that includes Prince, you know) over that mess they used to put on there where 15 different acts would play a two-song medley all at the same time with feathers and balloon animals and shit flying everywhere.

U didn't like this?

loved it. but she certainly qualifies as "ancient has-been legend" if there ever was one. even back then. so that proves my point.
