Hidden Beach is losing their moneymaker..it's that simple..they're pulling out their last card to keep her..they're not counting the live and collabo albums..
.A judge will have the final say on that.Once Jill leaves, all of the Philly Neo-Soul artist that Jeff , Questlove and Rich Nichols put them on to will be gone. There were already horror stories about Hidden Beach..They wanted to Jill to put out albums when her acting career started to jump off..to capitalize on it and it never happend. A deal will be worked out...this last album will be released on HB and she gets to move on to a label that she won't outgrow and put her in the right direction sidenote:Jill is a little "left of center"..lol...but what artist isn't?

That's the only way I've been able to sympathize with the label on this one.

Identity said: For those who missed it on the alternative thread, Jill is challenging the lawsuit:
Jill Scott Responds to Hidden Beach Lawsuit Feb 5, 2010 This is a statement from the representatives of Jill Scott: "The lawsuit filed on February 3, 2010 by Hidden Beach Recordings against Jill Scott has no legal merit and misrepresents the history of Ms. Scott's relationship with the label. Jill Scott has the legal right to terminate her recording contract with Hidden Beach Recordings under California's 7-year rule, where she had been a recording artist for more than 10 years. During her time at Hidden Beach Recordings, she released several highly successful albums. At this time, with many creative projects in the works which include music, film and television roles and product development, Ms. Scott looks forward to continuing to further her artistry and building the Jill Scott brand in other creative environments." http://www.prnewswire.com...30102.html So it looks like she's going for the 10 year rule and not the 6 album rule. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I predict that Clive Davis is behind this I bet he has been trying to sign Jill for years. He's probably telling her things like "Come over to J Records,I'll guarantee that you'll become a SUPERSTAR,a modern-day Aretha".
He's known to be very persuasive

I will admit that I am not a Jill Scott fan, but the closing lines of that statement about the importance of developing the "Jill Scott brand" make me feel like music isn't her priority anyway. Fame is.

I agree with on the fact that she is NOT gonna get the support at a major, she will get lost in the shuffle, i know indies dont have the promo, but lets be serious, Angie Stone got lost at her "major" label very easily. A lot of majors are going after established artists now. Atlantic and Capitol have been restructuring their Urban department. Capitol really hasn't had much of a prescence on the Urban and Hip-Hop side over the last 10 or so years. They have a few artists that are successful, but not enough to claim they are a "big force" in the market. As for someone like Angie Stone, I wouldn't consider Concorde an "indie" label. Especially after Ray Charles' last album did so well and they have acquired Stax. They may be "indie", but they are a "big" player in the indie world. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

She gotta eat though, there's no demand on her outside of her usual fanbase(the ones who took noticed of her since the debut album) hence why she ventured into acting as a safety net. I gotta say this though, she'll become a superstar if she focused on acting.
