"The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty" Is Back - And Michael Is Still The Draw It's understandable that the first line of the press release announcing "The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty" is "Following The Untimely Passing of The `King of Pop...,' which obviously plays on the celebrity of Michael Jackson. Of course Michael Jackson - whose album sales have skyrocketed since his passing - is still the major claim to fame of The Jackson Family - that is Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Randy, and Papa Joe and of course, mother Katherine. The sisters - Rebbie, Janet, and even LaToya have basically forged their own way. As practically everyone knows, Michael at about age 6 ignited the spark in the family's entertainment machine and has generated the most interest and -- let's just say it -- cash for the family. As someone noted soon after Michael Jackson's June 25, 2009 death, if the four oldest brothers had appeared in Berry Gordy's rehearsal studio without Michael, they would have soon been back in Gary, Indiana with only memories of what might have been to sustain them. Few question that Michael's talent, work ethic and ultimate industry savvy is what fueled the family's "celebrity" and its coffers. Of course, that's what is still fueling them. Now A&E has announced that the mini series The Jacksons filmed for A&E - "The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty" will be available on two DVD discs for $24.95 starting March 30. "Straight from the tabloids to the television, this intimate docu-series -- seen by over 4.2MM viewers on its debut night -- chronicles the turbulent personal and professional lives of the Jackson brothers as they reunite in the aftermath of the passing of their beloved brother, Michael," the release states. "Public interest in the family has never been higher and on March 30, consumers will have the opportunity to know the Jacksons like never before with this six-hour glimpse into the “First Family of American Music” with a must-have addition to every music fan’s home entertainment library." Then, the tag line of the whole publicity campaign follow -- "You Only Think You Know Them." Not to sound like a hater, but it seems the less you know about the Jacksons these days, the better. I've been a fan of Michael Jackson since the Jackson 5 days. Talk of all the discord in the family -- untimely deaths, allegations of spousal and sibling abuse, and more recently such events as Papa Joe hawking items hours after Michael's death -- have certainly dimmed the aura that surrounded the band. The bottom line seems clear -- it's all about the bottom line. Michael supported his family in life and now they expect the same during his death -- and then some. That's obvious as the press release goes on to blab about the brothers" difficult-to-balance demands of their professional commitments and celebrity." Please. Then, as now, the brothers had no careers -- except using Michael as a cash machine. They were horrified when the cash machine began to dry up in the last years of Michael's life. Another columnist wrote that Michael's death was the best thing that ever happened to The Jacksons. That renewed interest in the family. The increased album sales dramatically. It gave the "brothers" another shot at fame and fortune. It cleared the way to use Michael's kids for publicity. And, of course, it got rid of that darned Michael and his extravagant lifestyle. What's your take? Do you think it's wrong for the Jackson Family to still use Michael's name, reputation and image to further their own financial and industry successes? Or do you think the family is only honoring Michael -- as they have said - by keeping his image alive? | |

bboy87 said: Thanks for posting that dude. He was right on the mark, like others have said. Especially the part about, him wondering if we didn't treat him well enough during his lifetime. It pisses me off how quickly people can find empathy in their hearts for MJ (or a person in general) when they have passed away. It just isn't right..and you know what, even if the world suddenly changed its way, and gave lots more empathy and grace during a person's lifetime - I'd still be bitter because of how it all unfolded with regard to Michael. He was treated like shit. Given a bad name. He didn't"do" anything to be treated the way he did. During Michael's lifetime, people were more respectful to killers than him, and the people who the world treated so much better than MJ didn't do ANYTHING for the world, charities all over the world, inspire so many people..and yet he was treated like a joke..like dirt. He didn't DO that to himself. HE DIDN'T. Asshole media people like Nancy Grace, Diane Diamond, Martin Bashir did that TO him. Sneddon and all his bastard associates did that to him. After the 2005 trial, Michael's lawyer told him to leave Neverland for good, because he thought Sneddon would be chasing after Michael forever in some form or another. Odds are he was right. Sneddon was out to take Michael down period, and Diane Diamond and the media were out to help him. I hate when I get like this, but I was in the court room, and I saw the proceedings with my own eyes. What was reported day after day, was not what actually happened. There was a huge bias to see Michael burried, and thank G-D the jury was smart enough to actually be present and not be fooled. However, the trial did show one thing. The media resented Michael and wanted him burned at the stake. It pisses me off and truthfully, they got their wise. The trial was probably the beginning of the end for Michael. I can't imagine going through so much bullshit for so long, trying to help someone, and then be turned on, and then to have your heart and soul possibly ripped from you...oh and your freedom and dignity. They killed Michael Jackson just as much as Dr. Assface Murray, and they deserve to be rotting in the same prison as hopefully Murray will. Actually, better yet I wish Murray would inject all of them with the levels of propofol that killed MJ, and then do it to himself. On a side note, I'm excited to see Wesley in a new movie. CAPTAIN EO returns to Dinseyland.
After being sealed away in the Disney Vault for 13 years, Michael Jackson's "Captain EO" saw the light of day on Tuesday at Disneyland. Disney surprised Jackson fans earlier this week when it issued an announcement that the 1986 film would be returning to the Tomorrowland Theater. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by George Lucas, the 17-minute 3-D film reportedly cost $30 million to make — setting a record at the time for the most expensive short film ever made. The story follows EO (Jackson) on a journey with his fuzzy alien friends to deliver a gift to the evil Witch Queen (Anjelica Huston). The feature originally ran exclusively in Disney parks from 1986 to 1997, closing four years after the pop star first faced child molestation allegations. Interest in the futuristic sci-fi film was reinvigorated after the sudden passing of Michael Jackson last June, when fans began campaigning on Facebook for the movie's return. According to Disney, more than 500 people (some in EO-inspired costumes) lined up to catch Tuesday's 10 a.m. premiere. Some had even spent the night outside the gates in order to see the first screening. "I loved it," one fan commented. "I grew up on it, so I'm so excited that it's back." Some of those who enjoyed "Captain EO" during its original run said they were excited to share the experience with a new generation. "I absolutely loved it," said one parent. "It was just like when I was 7, and it was amazing. I'm so glad I could bring my little one. She's 3, and she loved it too — huge Michael Jackson fan!" While Disneyland says "Captain EO" is running as a limited engagement, a spokesperson told KTLA that it will continue to play as long as it's popular. source: MTV "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. Paramedic: Alleged Michael Jackson ambulance tape is a hoax
By Alan Duke, CNN February 25, 2010 -- Updated 0111 GMT (0911 HKT) A recording released by a London tabloid that purports to be a call about Michael Jackson's death has been deemed a fake. Paramedic says the voice on the recording is not his, said Los Angeles Fire Department Speakers on recording did not use "standard protocol" used by paramedics Tabloid posted the recording online, saying it proved Jackson had no pulse Dr. Conrad Murray charged with involuntary manslaughter in singer's death Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- A paramedic who rushed Michael Jackson to a hospital the day he died said a recording purported to be him calling the emergency room is a fake, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. A British tabloid posted the recording online, suggesting it was evidence that Jackson had no pulse at the time, contrary to what his personal doctor said. The audio "has been determined NOT to be the voice of any member of the Los Angeles Fire Department," fire spokesman Brian Humphrey said in a written statement Wednesday. "The Firefighter/Paramedic who handled communications for that incident has confirmed to LAFD Administration that the voice is not his," Humphrey said. One initial cause of skepticism about the recording was that the speakers did not use "standard protocol or established practice" followed by professional paramedics when they communicate with hospital staff, Humphrey said. Dr. Conrad Murray has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's June 25 death, which the coroner ruled was caused by a combination of drugs given to him that morning. The Sun newspaper did not reveal the source of the recording, but characterized it as a "911 tape." The disputed recording features a male, who says he is a paramedic in an ambulance, speaking to a female, who is supposedly at the emergency room of UCLA Medical Center. "We have a male, 50. Pop star Michael Jackson. Unresponsive, no pulse. Tried to resuscitate him. Unsuccessful. We are en route," the male voice said. "OK. We'll have doctors standing by," the female voice replied. "We've done everything we can here in the ambulance. Hopefully, when we get there -- we should be there in five minutes," the male said. "It doesn't look good." Humphrey said it is routine for paramedics to use a cell phone or a two-way radio to talk to an emergency room as they rush to a hospital, but they "don't normally speak like this in a medical response." Specifically, the paramedic would not be likely to use a patient's name in the conversation, even if it is a celebrity, Humphrey said. It would be routine for the hospital to record the conversations for legal reasons, he said. UCLA Medical Center spokesman Dale Triber Tate said, "There is no way we could authenticate it even if we had patient/estate authorization, which we do not have." An authenticated recording of the 911 call for help from Jackson's Holmby Hills, California, home was released by the fire department the day after the pop icon's death. A Jackson bodyguard, who was in the room as Murray tried to revive him, spoke to the 911 operator: "He's not breathing, and we're trying to pump him, but he's not breathing," the bodyguard said. "He's not responding to CPR or anything," "We're less than a mile away and we'll be there shortly," the operator said. Hoax recordings have emerged since Jackson's death, including a video produced by a German TV show that purported to show a living Jackson stepping out of a coroner's van. A spokeswoman for RTL, the leading private broadcaster in Germany, later said it was an experiment to show how easy it is to spread rumors online.
