Teena Marie on tour with Rick James 1981

I was on the internet listening to samples of Teena Marie performing with Rick James live at Long Beach,CA 1981 on the Street Songs expanded edition Cd.I'm wondering if anyone who attended this concert knows if Teena performed her own slot of this tour?I'm sure she did more of her own songs during the show. She really turned it out and she even upstaged the headliner a bit.Can someone please help me out!Peace!

I attended the one at The forum in Inglewood Ca and that one and yes she did perform more songs she was co headliner. I guess they didn't include her performance on that live part of the cd because it was Rick's cd not hers.
That tour was so hot with her included. The street songs tour Rick James & Teena Marie

Those Long Beach shows are legendary! I wish they would release that footage on DVD.

I'm very disappointed how they have handled Rick James legacy. Its like he doesn't even exist anymore....That has happen with a lot of black artist...Like James Brown, Luther Vandross, Roger< The only black artist legacy is being handled well is Michael Jackson.....It saddens me...Because they were all so gifted now just forgotten.

Exactly, bro! I mean, it's sad that he (Rick) went out on such a sour comic note (the "I'm Rick James, b**tch!"-thing,) but he is due immense props for the master musician, composer, producer, arranger and performer he truly was. I couldn't agree more with u. biggrin

Exactly man! He was so much more than "I'm Rick James Bitch" and "Super Freak". He was incredibly gifted and was really the first Black male artist to cross over with The Street Songs album & tour, Teena is the only one keeping him alive and giving him props. But he will never be forgotten with me ever. smile

I wish Teena would release a live album. It's a shame that the only official live material I have from her is on this Rick James album. She's even funkier live than on record, especially now.

Even Bootsy gave him his props for taking the funk to the mainstream without selling out.

His estate has handled his legacy poorly at best. He allegedly had several albums in the vaults, they should be on the shelves by now; not to mention his back catalog that has been out of print for almost two decades. Rick will never be forgotten with me, but the rest of the world and their short term memory just might forget if his estate keeps sitting on their hands.
Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

I agree,it's a damn shame disbelief A few years ago,his estate announced plans for remastered CDs,new albums of music that Rick recorded before his death and a documentary/movie on Rick's life.So far,we haven't seen nothing.Where is Motown/Universal at?? Why are they ignoring Rick's catalog?

Rick came here to Rochester NY. right after the Bustin Out LP dropped & during that show he played 3 tracks from that LP:
Bustin Out,High On Your Love & Spacey Love.

His estate has mishandled everything. I worked with an actor that was being considered to play Rick James. He said Eddie Murphy was executive producing it. But that was years ago. I mean how is the estate going to make any money if they don't handle his legacy.

Something tells me Motown is behind this. They have been known to hold up things before. Like they did with Marvin Gaye's catalog. When they were trying to make a movie on his life, they prevented them from using any of his music.
