SWITCH 'This Is My Dream' now available on CD

Switch-This Is My Dream
Formed in Mansfield, Ohio in 1974 under the name First Class. Featuring brothers Bobby and Tommy DeBarge, Greg Williams all from Grand Rapids, Michigan along with Ohio natives Phillip Ingram (brother of James Ingram), Eddie Fluellen and Jody Sims. At the time, they called themselves First Class.

Eventually changing their name to Switch due to their ability to 'switch' to different instruments during a song, the group got the attention of Jermaine Jackson, former member of The Jackson 5, who heard the group's demo tape and within days the group was promptly signed to the Motown Records subsidiary label, Gordy. There, they recorded and released their self titled debut album in 1978. The album featured their first Top 10 R&B hit single entitled "There'll Never Be". Depending on whom was singing lead on the songs, their songs were written by Williams, Ingram and Bobby DeBarge and often in collaboration with Jermaine Jackson. Though they were a consistent presence on the R&B charts through the late 1970s with albums such as Switch II from 1979 (their second release), This Is My Dream and Reaching For Tomorrow in 1980. Their final release on Gordy was Switch V which was released in 1981.

The actual CD „This is my dream“ was their first prduction the group produced totally by themselves. Bobbby Debarge, Greg Williams, Eddie Fluellen and Jody Sims share all the Credits. The best single taken from this album titled „Love over and over again“ reached the top position in the Billboard Soul Charts.

My sister had this album back in the day,it is superb! A couple of great uptempo jams on Side One:

and a wonderful ballad "You And I".Listen to the spoken intro by Bobby DeBarge....is he referring to LaToya Jackson, who had a single at the time called "Nighttime Lover"?? hmmm

I can't see a label listed on the CD,but I'm pretty sure it's a Motown/Universal release.

It seems for some reason this album is believed to be there third when actually it was there fourth after "Reaching For Tomorrow". I remember hearing " I Finally Found Somebody New","My Friend In The Sky","Don't Take My Love Away", long before hearing "Love Over and Over Again" I remember buying them both at the same time at a Kmart in Raleigh N.C. on December 23rd 1980.

Strangely enough,I don't remember hearing anything from the 'Reaching For Tomorrow' album. It seems like that album didn't get much attention/promotion,at least not in my area.

I guess that's the reason for them hurrying back into the studio and releasing "This Is My Dream" in the same year. The RFT album wasn't cutting it commercially

It's time for the heads at Motown to stop being simps and start doing some real re-releases! No more compilations and re-issuing of compilations, release full albums!

Unless you're Marvin, Stevie, Doss and Supremes, J5, Tempts, Smoke and 4T's, no way. Only first tier artist get that right.

Shiiiiit, they're just now getting off their asses and re-issuing The Jackson 5's full albums lol

You know it's a hot ass shame they haven't re-released the discographies of Rick James, Syreeta, Jermaine Jackson, Switch, Debarge, and Teena Marie

A Switch Box Set would be nice. cool

I would urge everyone to be proactive about your favorite artist/music and organize a campaign of letters to Apples Inc, Amazon.com, and the respective record conglomerates that own all the music. I'm certain that's how most of the Sylvers discography came to be on iTunes ...even if it's bootleg copies. Fans organized a letter campaign.

I'm sick of compilations!! I want the original albums, newly remastered. It's a damn shame that most of Rick James' Motown albums aren't available on CD disbelief

People need to be like Michael Jackson fans and send people letters lol

How do you think we knew about a possible expanded edition of "I Want You Back!: The Unreleased Masters" coming out? lol

Due to Vibe and Unsung, there has been renewed interest in Debarge.Whereas before they were on their way to becoming somewhat obscure, but now, damn near everyone in the black community knows who they are and are appreciating their music.

Yes, El has been out of jail for 3 months now. He will be on a show about Soundtracks next week on Tv One and was recently on Kiss FM where he sang and according to everyone who heard him, his voice sounds the same as ever.
