80s Song of the Day: "California 1" by Con Funk Shun (1981)
I've always loved this song  It's got a cool,laid-back,latin vibe to it....sounding like something that Santana would have recorded.Alot of guitar near the end,too.Never released as a single but it's a highlight of their '7' album.

This was MY first choice for Cali songs. That drive down 101.....life at it's best. This song FEELS like what making that drive is like. this song captures the spirit of California on a sunny afternoon,driving on the freeway.If this song had been released as a single,it might have cracked the pop charts.It's got alot of crossover appeal. | |
