I've been listening to more female artists lately...especially those who are singer/songwriters who tell a story and set a different atmosphere with each episode/slice of life they sing about... Tonight I'm listening to Ricky Lee Jones who is still a terrific singer/songwriter after three decades. Went to see her at the Fillmore recently... Who is your favorite female singer/songwriter and why?

Actually though, after I looked at it again, that thread isn't asking the same thing that I am, which is about female singers who are also established songwriters and musicians--in the vein of Joni Mitchell, Ricki Lee Jones, Minnie Riperton, Tracy Chapman, etc.... Not singers or songwriters but singer-songwriters...a totally different category... But that thread did mention some--how could I forget!--Bjork, Kate Bush (when you could get her!), Sade, and Bonnie Raitt--that's what I'm talking about!
