Lady Gaga & Prince.

So I compared Lady Gaga & Prince. A few people had a heart attack. I don't know how anyone here feels about her (or even knows who she is) but I guess they took it the wrong way.

Basically, my point was, I feel the two had similarities. When they both emerged, they both took bold choices in the fashion department, and people definitely judged them off of that. In no way, I think they're alike music wise, but I think people judged them off of what they wore a lot. So do you agree, disagree, just don't care?

LMAO--so untrue! There is no comparison between the two except so far as Lady Gaga is a fan and was inspired by Prince, Bowie, and other people... She has started out well but as far as eclipsing her icons...I don't think so! And, I have no doubt, that she would agree herself!

In 5 years, no one will remember Lady Gaga. We'll hear about her only if she takes part to some reality or as a judge of some crappy talent show.
In music history, Lady Gaga will be as relevant as Samantha Fox and Mandy Smith

People who wear outrageous clothes become noticed by the media, in this regard early Prince and Lady Gaga are similar. When it comes to music, I think Lady Gaga might have a lot to bring. I like most of her work so far, it's not close to Prince's early work, but it's good enough to catch my attention...

Mandy Smith's album is a classic.

She's interesting...I'll give her that. And of all the garbage polluting mainstream radio now, hers is better than most and I actually find myself bobbing my head. "Poker Face" is great, but "Paparazzi" is horrible,

But at most, she told her producer "i want that 80s sound...you know, Prince, Madonna and sh*t..."

We'll see if she sticks around. I strangely find myself hoping she does.

I don't see much of a connection between the two to be honest.

Lady Gaga is more like a cross between Madonna and Grace Jones, I don't really
see any Prince influence there. Her freaky style is more pop-art and indie
art school bizarro chic than Prince's P-Funk, Family Stone, New Romantic and
Gangster Glam influences.

Prince is definitely a different soul then Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga's art and music is definitely greatly different than Prince. i don't see any similarities.

And again. wink

There's any number of artists out there using one gimmick or another...that doesn't automatically warrant a Prince comparison. Boris nailed it.

So did Elton John and he's nothing like Prince either. The thing is, if you dig Gaga then that's cool but we don't need a comparison to validate your preference, right? I personally have no use for her but I promise not to go off on ya.. lol

Well, you could say that he stole it from Bowie/Marc Nolan, who stole it from Elvis who stole it from ..

Or you could say that Prince individually embodied an esculated sex image for the male popstar in the 80's, build upon (and beyond) what came before, but non the less still quite black in image in his first years. Who knows how this will play out?

And Madonna was a far more white experience. Her sex image seemed to be build on Blondie and porn and something very European.

I dunno. Does it matter?

It's always a crap discussion to compare two artists when the first artist only got one album out, and the other has been running for 30+ years.

Artists never stop making music. I'd be willing to make a bet with anyone who's willing to say Gaga will be forgotten in a mere five years lol For they are clearly uneducated in the legacy and trail left behind of real music and talent. Those who are knows the cream rises to the top.

Exactly! I totally agree with U. No one took her seriously at first. Because of her outrageous fashion. But now they starting to notice she is a genius musically. Just like PRINCE. Even though its too early to put her in Prince category. But they have similarities the way they started out.

Prince started out as an R&B artist then he just switched it up with Dirty Mind and shocked and alienated everybody. But it was the boldest and smartest thing he did in his career. He didn't care. They do have similarities.Lady Gaga is going the dance queen route like Madonna. But U can tell she so much more than that. Getting the gay audience attention with her drag dressing . Just like Prince use to do.
eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

PSH
Madonna is far more commercial, Gaga is far more artistical.
Madonna doesn't write her stuff, Gaga does.
Madonna isn't a bred musician, Gaga is a pro on the piano
& that isn't even a fraction of it
Do your homework before posting such an low remark

I guess that's true, I just happen to be thinking of Lady Gaga & Prince at the time haha, I know there music is NOTHING alike, I just was thinking they both had this, "I wear what I want and make the music I want" type attitude, but I know a lot of artists have done that before.

'The Fame' is a WAY better debut album than 'For You' was.

'For You' was a bomb in reality, 'The Fame' has sold in the gazillions and just keeps coming with hit after hit single...

It is amazing how ignorant people are when it comes to some things.

Lagy Gaga = Madonna? Get a grip on reality, the only thing those two have in common is that they are female. (and even that is up for debate.
