Nancy Wilson Has anyone out there ever wondered how Nancy Wilson ever became a legend? I'm just curious. I think her voice is generally limited, has no real range, that most of her songs are kinda dull and lifeless and often wonder what it is about her music that some people love. She's always given props to Jimmy Scott (whom I LOVE) and claims that "had it not been for Jimmy Scott, there'd be no Nancy Wilson." The only thing I can hear in her voice that even remotely resembles Scott, is that "howl/yelp"-thing she curls the ends of her notes with. Other than that, there's no vibratto, maybe a little growl here and there, but even THAT is hardly ever present. I saw her live in 2000, but she was doing Jazz and in that aspect, she shines, but I'm talkin' more specifically about her late 70's/80's material (on Capitol and then Columbia.) I'm not a hater. I have some of her records/CD's already and one song, in particular, is mind-blowing. It's called, "The Sadness in My Eyes" from her 1980 (Capitol) "Take My Love" album. Have you never heard alot of Nancy songs? The woman is a damned good singer. | |

Her 1989 disc "A Lady With A Song" is exceptional! That album is what made me fall in love with her. I think her reading of the Emotions "Don't Ask My Neighbor" is better than the original. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I think it's something called hard work (close to 60 recordings and decades of performances) & a forgotten commodity called talent.
Without having to say anything else regarding her ongoing career (although much could be)...
