Urgent Help Needed: Queer Music Suggestions

Hola peeps,

The irony of my short re-treat from this place. The irony. lol

Anyhoo, so our local Stonewall chapter (which I am VP of, irony part--again) is throwing a big ole gay bash on Saturday with our congressman, assembly members, mayor and big wigs but we have also have hired a DJ for dancing after the dinner and speeches are over. Well, the group did this last year and the music was horrid (the same wedding and reunion songs that always get played--celebration, brick house, we are family, mallo) and I ain't having it this year. So, could you suggest some hip and danceable queer (or queer allied) artist and songs? Nothing slow, this ain't no junior prom. But hurry, I got to get them a list today.

Thanks!

Toni Braxton - Un-break My Heart (Soul-Hex Anthem Mix)
George Michael - Spinning The Wheel (Forthright Mix) (it's all about not staying with someone who sleeps around and possibly brings home a disease - and a HOT ass mix)
Jerry Springer Opera - I Just Wanna Dance (Wayne G Heave Mix)
Indigo - Use It Up, Wear It Out (QAF Shake Your Body Down Mix)
Widelife - All Things (Barry Harris Queer Eye Mix)
Janet Jackson - Doesn't Really Matter (Jonathan Peters Club Mix)
Janet Jackson - Together Again (Jonathan Peters Sound Factory Mix)
The Ones - Flawless (Club Mix - which is just a longer version of the original)
George Michael - Flawless (Go To The City) (uses the previous song as a base sample)
George Michael - An Easier Affair
George Michael - Outside (House Remix, or the Jon Douglas Remix) (Jon Douglas has been GM's engineer for years)

Obvious classics if you're going old school:

Mighty Real - Sylvester
I Was Born This Way - Carl Bean
It's My House - Diana Ross (there are uptempo mixes of this)
Freedom - Black Magic
Free Man - South Shore Commission

Almost anything that is dancable will work for what you want to do. It depends on your crowd. You can hardly go wrong with the classics (Janet, MJ, George Michael, etc). If your crowd is not into the club remixes, I would stick to pop songs (GaGa, almost anything disco).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I tried to listen to as many as possible and take into consideration the, umm, conservitive group attending. Here's the list I came up with:

My list
Together Again (Jonathan Peters Sound Factory Mix) - Janet Jackson
Mighty Real - Sylvester
I'm Coming Out- Diana Ross
Fast Love-George Michael
Let's All Chat- Michael Zagar Band
Foot Stomping Music- Hamilton Bohamnon
Love Shake-B-52's
Groove Is In the Heart- Dee-lite
Set Your Heart Free- Cyndi Lauper
All Things (Barry Harris Queer Eye Mix)-Widelife
Supermodel- RuPaul
No. Slow. Songs!!!

...and if "I'm Everyone Woman" is played, you don't disrespect your audience by playing the tired Whitney Houston version. Chaka Khan's version was, is and will always be "the" only version worthy of airplay. biggrin

(That last comment is cause someone dared to recommend Whitney's version.)

The 9 minute mix of "Fast Love" that has the resung version of "I'm Your Man" in it, is just incredible (and even better live on the DVD)

Cyndi's last album is full of great dance songs. Hell, Colton Ford is in one of her videos from the album. That's about as gay as it gets! It's a great album.
