-Gregg Allman (I always loved southern rock because it was more akin to blues)
-Chris Robinson (of the black Crowes)
-Arthur Lee (of Love)
-Jimi Hendrix (not in the traditional sense but his voice worked perfectly with his music)
-Elvis Presley (yeah, Elvis)
-Robert Plant (same as Hendrix)
-I'm not sure his name but the lead singer of The Guess Who had a great voice.
[Edited 1/28/10 23:44pm]

how can one say jimi hendrix is the same as robert plant they sound nothing alike. Roberts better btw.
Robert plant, chris cornell, Alice Cooper, steven tyler, Axl Rose, Freddie Mercury, David lee roth, John Fogerty, Mick Jagger, all should be noted as possible contenders
[Edited 1/29/10 14:20pm]

I liked Jimi's voice (he even crooned on a few songs, The Wind Cries Mary, Electric Ladyland, 1983). I didn't claim he and Plant sounded alike. Just that they weren't great singers in the traditional sense. But it's true Jimi shouldn't be listed on a "best" voice list. I guess I was thinking more of MY "favorite" voices in rock.

For me, definitely Freddie Mercury and Elvis rate ridiculously high. Robert Plant and Ozzie both deserve props. However, Aretha rocks harder than anyone and needs to be on the list as does Janis Joplin.

As far as Elvis lacking diversity in his singing I have to disagree. Regardless of what one might think of his music or his impact, the man had a nearly three octave range and sang everything from gut bucket blues to near opera aria to blue grass, and he sang them all with complete credibility. Only Ray Charles and Aretha rank with Elvis in terms of having a diverse voice. Often overlooked is his falsetto. Check out his version of "Blue Moon" on youtube, simply haunting.

for the best man, I'll have to go with Robert Plant on this one. though Freddie would be a close second.
however. when it comes to women I gotta go the gilr who had the more rock star rockstar spirit than Roger Daltry or Rod Stweart could ever pretend to have.

He didn't have a horrible voice because songs like little miss lover and voodo chile sound awesome but he wasn't anything mega special even though he was more on the good side. He was an awsome guitar player listen to spanish castle magic and hey joe. Bottom line he can sing but i don't see him going past the 3rd or 4th round of american idol lol.

Yes , he was a great guitar player but I think Bob Dylan has a better voice.

LMAO, Bob Dylan doesn't have a better voice than anybody.

But he's still great.

Bob dylan couldn't sing. Hendrix could sing better. Plant is the best btw i think.

It's all a matter of opinion, of course. I will share who I think are good rock vocalists:

1. Adam Lambert
2. Pat Benatar
3. Donna Summer
4. Steve Perry
5. Tina Turner
6. Freddie Mercury (of whom I own nothing)
7. Stevie Nicks
