Nelly, Mariah Carey, and Missy Elliot are NOT minneapolis funk

or funk period.

So possibly one of the last old school creations by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis using their original machines is not funk because Mariah is associated with it, even though the originators helped create the sound? Please.

I live in Mpls and I KNOW you not tellin me what Mpls Funk is just because someone is not associated with the original sound.

And Shalamar may have had a sound back then but we are talking 2000 and on when the 80's started coming back not Minneapolis Funk in the 80's, that's another thread.

Everybody in here need to pick up Dam Funk's new album because every1 in this site always complaining about wanting the sound back....ITS HERE...Dam Funk goit it goin on...two albums worth of solid 80's funk.

dont try to pull the minneapolis card on me

i was born/lived there and i still live in minnesota/visit the twin cities on a regular basis.

I KNOW you arent trying to go that route.

just because jam and lewis produced ONE weak ass track for mariah carey doesnt mean you can just slap on the minneapolis tag.(let alone FUNK)
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

im saying its not the mplsound because its not the mplsound

it doesnt matter when it was made

ive been longing for some quality new-age funk and there just isnt anyone out there to provide it.

Dam-Funk has some nice grooves but i wouldnt consider his stuff very mpls. it gives off more of a spacey vibe.

These youtube clips don't do the album any justice after listening to it yesterday. I been waiting for someone to make an album like this for a heck of a long time.

Other than Bumper and Dam Funk I dont know anybody that is actually DOING full hardcore synth and drum kit funk like those two..unless doing one or two sound-like cuts on their albums. I'd maybe add Chromeo to the list although they can get a bit poppy at times.
