Janet Jackson covers the new issue of Gotham, and she speaks on New York, her new book, her new album, her New Year’s resolutions and, of course, Michael’s death.

On what she’s taken from Michael’s death:
“When you hear people say life goes on, it’s really the truth. You can’t stop living. It becomes a part of you. I feel a bit selfish because there are times I feel I shouldn’t be doing this, but I enjoy my work and I have to keep doing it. I have to keep my life going. There are days that are harder than others.”

On her New Year’s resolutions:
“I want to learn a language. I haven’t decided which, but it’s between French, Spanish and Italian. I also want to get closer to God.”

On her new album:
“It’s going to be a little different. The writing is about life experiences. There’s a part of me that’s craving escapism, which is a sense of wanting to keep on moving with my work but also of coming to terms with reality. So I think it will be upbeat and light.”

On her new book:
“I hope it’s inspiring for all ages. I’m talking about weight loss, confidence, self-esteem—especially in your youth. It’s not an autobiography, but there are little anecdotes that I give here and there from my childhood all the way to the present that I thought would be interesting and helpful to share.”

On what she loves about New York:
“Everything. I love the energy–the creative energy. I’ve been here for 12 years and I will be here for the rest of my life.”

it's a nice interview tho. she considers herself a Christian, which I've never heard her actually say before although she's been wearing alot of crosses lately.

Yeah, they're old pics. They're from Black Book Magazine 2008.

She sounds so mature and I've realized when she's single her interviews are more interesting and introspective. Her TVR interviews were the same way but she was going through some soul searching. I can't wait for this new album! I'm surprised that she considers herself a Christian now. She never said that before. I guess the older you get the more you want to be closer to a God or identify with a certain religion.

Gotham just took the pics and interviewed Janet. TBH, I don't see the point since she doesn't start covering magazines till the first week of February. I guess they asked her and she just told them to use the old pics.

I don't blame her for yearning escapism but that's what she has been doing for 3 albums now. Really, she's just running away from her problems. Since she said it's going to be about life experiences it should be good. Janet makes good music when it's on topics of that nature.

I can't believe miss jan is talking like such a New Yorker. She's so Cali, so LA to me, always has been, always will (being a citizen of los angelenos myself).

Bad promotion affected her sales, plus she didn't seem too inspired but I think this time is different. Hopefully we may see a renaissance with Janet.
