Jay Graydon and Randy Goodrum

I discovered a kewl CD by them called JaR.

It is along the lines of Steely Dan in terms of it being "Intellipop."

Here is a song from it called "The Cabo Cad".

Good stuff. Two pros at work.

"JaR's new album, Scene 29, is gonna' be one of those albums that you can gauge your "I'm Hip" quotient by how much earlier you've heard it than your friends. I think this album will eventually be considered the flagship of the new music. The new music is what is created after the "suits" gave up on the "biz". Anyway, I've known these guys for years and I had no idea that this stuff was in there. Well, now it's out here and we're all happy about it. Man, it's rare to play an album and still have your heart racing an hour later, especially someone else's album. Good work, guys."

biggrin Kool! I like the tunes!

Jay Graydon did two of my favorite guitar solos -- on "Peg" by Steely Dan, and "Listen to Me",by Narada Michael Walden...

And I like Randy Goodrum's tunes --I like his work on Dave Grusin's album, Nightlines....

In a related note here is 'Sweet' by Todd Rundgren from his 'Liars' CD.

Here's "After The Love Is Gone" from the rare Airplay CD.

Bill Champlin, Jay Graydon and David Foster co-wrote it and we know it from the great Earth Wind And Fire version.

It's fun as a musician to listen to both versions and hear the different arrangements.

My dad used 2 play Nightlines a lot when I was growin up. This song feat Randy Goodrum became one of my favorites....

Love the distictive Jay Graydon guitar licks.
(Same vibe as some of the Al Jarreau tunes he's worked on)

I'll continue the connections focusing on Bill Champlin.

Bill Champlin (lead vocal on the Airplay tune above) doing...

...Turn Your Love Around (co-written by Bill, Jay Graydon & Steve Lukather)

I'll throw in another Champlin tune he did with Chicago just because...

...Please Hold On (co-written by Bill, David Foster & Lionel Richie)

Thank you 'TheAudience'and 'diamondpearl1' . This is good stuff.

I like Jay's guitar playing and his keyboard tones on Breakin' Away by Al and I wonder if MJ was influenced by Jay on the guitar parts on "The Girl Is Mine". The guitar parts remind me of songs like "We're In This Love Together."

You're welcome.
Thanks for giving us something different to discuss.

I got to meet Jay Graydon at Steve Lukather's b'day gig last year.
Nice guy.

The other tune I was talking about...I love Jay Graydon's Guitar at the end of this tune, starting at the 3:27 mark--nothing overstated, it just relates so well to the feel of Narada's singing and the emotion of the song....

Narada - Listen to Me

Thats awesome. I love both those guys.

I also love Randy Goodrum aswell. I got a couple of his albums and I know he co-wrote for others aswell back in the day.

I also love Jay's guitar playing. One of my all time fav solo's is by him on a Planet 3 track called "welcome to love". Its probably less then 15 seconds LOL, and it just follows the chorus pretty much, but I love it regardless. Just so melodic and quite simple really (well i can play it LOL and I ain't much on guitar).

Here is an amazing song featuring the genius of Brian Wilson.
