I didn't think it was so terrible. It wasn't great, but then again I wasn't expecting much from this remake so I wasn't dissapointed. I thought Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson and Pink in particular were good. Of course, I also enjoyed seeing and hearing Michael. I enjoyed seeing Mike and Janet together as well, eventhough I could barely hear Janet. I'm just glad they left in MJ's vocals. He was such an integral part of the song.
I have to say with this new remake that I was more moved by the images of Haiti than the actual song itself. The beginning was good, but I did not enjoy the rap portion and Wyclef over did it with that shakey vibrato thing he does with his voice. Did not enjoy that, but it was OKAY overall. I hope this song raises money for the Haiti relief effort. [Edited 2/13/10 12:28pm] "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ

[Edited 2/13/10 12:28pm] well at the end of the day that is really the thing, its for a good cause so whether its shitty or great doesnt really matter, it just would have been nice if someone of TODAY could be inspired enough and moved enough to come up with a "we are the world" or "do they know its christmas" type of song but i think asking for that kind of "creation" from todays genres would be asking alot, so we continue to de-face the past for cause. The hope for haiti album is good though if people want a good record. I hope zombie Mike wakes up and kills all these fuckheads, starting with Q.
That was a 'Purple and Gold' level of awfulness. I'd never think that just a couple of weeks after possibly the worst song in the history of mankind raped my earholes, it could happen again so quickly. But it has. Shit.

Wayne souned THE fool.
I LOVEEE T-pain for his part The little rap was random and unneeded. P!nk, Fergie and Miley Cyrus sounded like shit with all that hollering. Who the fuck let Nicole Scidonthowthefucktospellhername in!?! 3T?? Fuck outta here!! Janet looked and sounded beautiful! and YASS! for lipping even for a charity single. They could've at least gave her some headphones. and Wyclef's chanting was traditional Haitian but so unnecessary. DEATH @ MJ's solo before Usher dragging everyone in sight! <----- Wtf. I'm glad everyone loved it as much as I did. The autotune really gave it a 21st century feel and Lil Wayne brought a fresh new flava I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

As always, in even more so now, after his passing, MJ's omnipresence is stronger than ever, especially on projects like this.
The remake is okay, but it's not a pinky on the original of course, but it's about the cause, not the song.

They had their heart in the right place but this is a massive let down.
The overuse of AutoTune on so many "singers" was laughable. It was nice that they kept MJ's parts untouched as he was as much a part of this as Lionel and Quincy. As for Janet's duet part with Michael - I hardly heard her, and it was obvious that they shot her part separate to everyone else. I also think it's time for Jamie Foxx to retire his Ray Charles bit - we get it, move on. Swa "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

There are no more words to add to this mess, even though with good intentions.
For me, I was floored to see Tony Bennett as a part of this. I'm sure in the end he was wondering why he agreed to it. If anything, he should have been a part of the first one. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

The only time I could really hear Janet, after watching it on TV
and LISTENING for her after not being able to hear her last night, was at the very end, her voice seems to trail behind Michael's for a second, like as a echo, or with a hint of reverb, and you can notice it. Other then that, for all I know she might have been lip syncing and just being there to be there, for the sake of loving her brother and his message. Who knows..? MJ Fan 1992-Forever

The best way to hear Janets part is to have headphones/earphones on. She pretty much whispers it, but you can hear her vibrato at the end of every line. I just wish the would have turned her vocals up or something. They did her wrong

I forgot to mention, WTF is up with Jamie Foxx still doing Ray Charles impressions??? And right in the middle of the song???? It's been 4 years since he won the Oscar, I thought he ceased with all that Ray Charles stuff. Guess not. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

You're right I can hear her vibrato too. She holds the last note of each line long. Plus you can separate Janet's tone from MJ's. The thing is they sound too much alike. So putting the vocals together was a bad idea anyway.
