I wasn't feeling a Prince vibe on it, but it was funky. The guy's falsetto was horrible last night though. Reminds me of the tragedy in music that is TV On The Radio (those guys are horrible).

Ernest, I'm not sure how much of TOTR you have heard, but I suggest you listen to some more of their stuff. They are FAR from horrible. I've seen them live a couple of times and they blew me away. Dear Science and Return to Cookie Mountain were great records.

Give em another chance.....

I've seen them on TV performing at least twice. That guy's falsetto....I honestly HONESTLY thought it was a joke at first. Then I realized they were serious. I was flabbergasted.

They were good on Conan. Saw them open for Beck a couple years ago.

I ended up downloading the current disc from iTunes and an LP called Ga Ga Ga Ga

the lead singers vocals aren't as strong as Prince (falsetto) but I liked the sparseness of the arrangement and the funk elements (dreaminess)

that was the second time I had seen them live... I believe I saw them on Conan last year and enjoyed them then

No one got the Wendy and Lisa vibe? I thought it was so strong that I checked tthe credits just to see if they has written some of the material

Hey I just googled Spoon and found this article... I knew I wasn't crazy because I can here the Prince influence.

"Mr. Daniel (lead/front man), whose musical inspirations run to the Stooges, Lou Reed, Paul Simon and Prince, also rejects the indie label. To me indie always meant something like not really caring enough to try, or not wanting to appear that you care and so therefore not trying,he said over dinner in New York a few nights after the Boston show. And I’ve never liked music like that. I want to see that there is some care in it, or at least some passion"

I would never compare them to Prince, or to Wendy & Lisa, but I have the GaGaGa album and it's pretty good.

They're more of an indie rock band. One of their songs reminds me of Billy Joel's Only the Good Die Young, and another song of theirs (Cherry Bomb) I think helped to inspire Cold Play's Viva La Vida.

I first saw them sing those songs on SNL and it was good enough that I went & bought the album, which is unusual for me.
