Michael Bolton was the Justin Temberfake of his time.

Wanna be like black artists but too arrogant to acknowledge them.

I loved how he try to play it off like he have never heard of the Isleys whofarted Bitch, please bored2

eek I didn't know that. Bolton needed to be slapped.... he needs to be slapped still. What a prick.

Oh yeah, it was a big deal back then. Dude thought he was living in the MCcArthy era where he could mossy on down to where the negros live all willy nilly, steal their shit and storm off like nothing's to it lol

Funny thing is, alot of black people liked him before this incident, which I could never quite figure out,,,,,dude is successful enough to make Kenny G's music pleasant, thats how cringe worthy he is.

I always thought Michael Bolton was corny, so I'm not familiar with the Isley situation, but I'm not surprised.

Sometimes I think it's our (Black community) fault because some of us acknowledge them as R&B artist, we buy their shit and act like they're one of us, so when they do something foul like this or the Justina Super Bowl thing or Eminem calling Black women out their name, we feel betrayed. Fuck all of that.

It's about the music, if you make good music, I will buy your stuff, but I'm not about all of that "ghetto pass, White chocolate, honorary Black person" bullshit.

Like I was a fan of Larry Bird because he played hard and was a competitive player, but I'm not going to act like he's "one of us" because he can ball.

I recall Ms. Jackson saying a lot of people dropped her like a bad habit (people = black people) after the Super Bowel fiasco. Much to do about nothing, in my humble opinion. As far as Eminem comments -I find it funny if not downright hypocritical our selective outrage when it comes to anybody who's not Black calling use disparaging names.

and by the way....

A lot of folks in our community hide behind and use their "ghetto pass" crendentials to lie, cheat, steel, and rob use blind. But I guess that's different too.

Pretty much.

Anyway back to Michael, dude and Kenny G competed for the most corniest "soul brothas" in the 1980s. I think they tied up. lol Hearing Michael's voice and Kenny's sax as a child in my brother's and cousins' stereos was grating to my four, five, six, seven-year-old ears. lol

And it had NOTHING to do with them being white. They were just corny. I say the same thing about some black singers back then like Lionel Richie, Freddie Jackson or Luther (in later years). lol

Examples of people with soul of the different persuasion:
Boz Scaggs
Todd Rundgren (don't laugh)
Darryl Hall
Michael McDonald
George Michael (who still has it IMHO)
Boy George
Teena Marie (and her soul made her color obsolete anyways)
Sheena Easton
Dusty Springfield
Rod Stewart (1971-1975 version)
Lisa Keith
Annie Lennox
Cyndi Lauper

Michael Bolton just didn't equate what was good pop or soul music. Just my opinion

I guess him playing the sax and wearing a tank top was his way of being "sexy". He couldn't even hide the fact that he was a geek. lol That mullet (and later that lazy long stringy hair) just didn't work on him. In fact his sax playing put me to sleep. lol

George Benson may have hired Kenny G as his opening act, but Clive Davis was the one that gave Kenny G a recording contact that required him to be the Whitney Houston of Jazz.

Hell yeah, I said it!

Could you please clarify your statement, because I don't know if this is a counterpoint to my post or you're just adding to my explaination.

As barely anyone is actually answering the question LOL, heres a good clip of Mike performing with Patti Labelle....

Considering he was a last minute replacement, he did very well. Particually against someone as formidable as Patti Labelle. Michael brought it.
