Okay, you need to understand something - humans have always worn animal skins. Most people don't advocate animal cruelty. The issue is much less with consumers like Kelis and more with the CONDITIONS IN WHICH THESE ANIMALS ARE SUBJECTED TO BY THE FUR MANUFACTURERS. So, throwing red paint on Kelis's fur ain't gonna stop Freddy Fatpockects at Acme Fur Inc. or make them treat animals any nicer and it won't stop the "Acme Meats" company from processing beef in cruel heinous ways. Most of PETA's attacks are misdirected and if they spent more time attacking fur factories and meat processing companies (LEGALLY) and less time antagonizing celebrities, they'd get more accomplished. yeah- when she starts killing here own food and skinning her own pelts I'll have some respect for her. I have friends who do and my grandfather did it too - they walk their talk. I only eat or wear what i have killed. I killed some serious cotton! And beans...I murder those little bastards. I also have fish scale shoes. But in all seriousness it's not just about the furs, it's about the INDUSTRY which is overtly cruel. Instead of defending her choice of what to wear she should look at what the lyrics in her songs says about women. Especially since she chooses to broach that subject of how women are treated in her retort.
Of course in my book stuff like furs,overblown cars,gaudy jewelry and any number of consumer goods just gives people more blatant excess to strive for when they need to focus on their family and lives. But that's just me. Seemingly most people are consumed with others lives. Course being on this forum makes me guilty of it.
