I like Lionel before he jumped-the-shark with the pop stuff. I don't think his pop stuff was horrible, but I still find myself listening to his Commodores stuff more. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

This song is the beginning of when he first needed to be slapped. I like his solo stuff but I'm just sayin'. Andy is a four letter word.

You can go back farther than that. His first taste of real pop success was "Three Times A Lady". That's when he started doing at lease 2 pop/country ballads on each album. By the time he did "Endless Love" and "Lady" he had become known as the pop/country ballad king. [Edited 12/16/09 7:24am] **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

The 'Time' CD by Lionel is underrated.

I agree with you on that. I didn't like it upon first listen, but one day, I was cleaning and put it on. I found myself getting really into it and actually shedding a tear. It is some of his most personal writing yet. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I agree with you on the Dancing on the Ceiling assessment. Also you had to ask is this the same guy who did soulful ballads like Sweet Love,This is Your Life,Just to Be Close to You,Say Yeah, High on Sunshine. It's not that i had a problem with his pop ballads or pop success but he seemed to shun R&B all together. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

It's not that i had a problem with his pop ballads or pop success but he seemed to shun R&B all together. The Commodores had some absolutely wonderful slow jams in the 1970s. Nice sexy after midnight feel to them. The kind that make me feel like picking up a stranger at 3:00 a.m. and bringing them home to do those filthy unnatural thangs. Lionel's solo slow stuff was the total opposite. They reminded me of the type of slow songs that white soccer moms would play in their mini vans while picking up their kids from a soccer game on a dull Sunday afternoon. Andy is a four letter word.

I knew that you was going to take the piss out of Lionel for THAT soft-pop classic. Truly was just as sugary as Three Times A Lady.

So what did you think of Hello? Decent. I think all his solo stuff is decent except for the two songs I mentioned and his recent work. But that's all that his solo work is....strictly decent. Andy is a four letter word.

Ironically i bought the Dancing on the Ceiling album and after one spin i took that crap back to the record store and before i set foot in it,that's actually who i sold the album too,a soccer mom. Don't laugh at my funk

He should have been slapped for "Three Times a Lady". I like "Three Times A Lady" The funny thing is....I could tolerate the schmaltzy,pop-styled ballads that Lionel did when he was a member of the Commodores, because there were always some funky jams on the rest of those albums. The other bandmembers made sure of that But as a solo act, those type of ballads took over and the funk disappeared.I remember when 'Dancing On The Ceiling' was released,an article in Black Beat magazine warned that "Lionel is becoming the black Barry Manilow",lol.

I used to have that CD but I sold it too There was only one song that I liked---"Love Will Conquer All"---and even that song sounds like a rip-off of the superior "Love Will Find A Way" from 'Cant' Slow Down'.

They also critized one of his hits from that period: "Say You,Say Me"?? Say what??" They gave him alot of heat for 'going pop' and abandoning his funk/R&B roots.
