My pops loves Teddy, I actually never really dug his until later. When I was younger, I loved his Blue Notes material, but was so-so with his solo material besides the main "Love TKO", "Close The Door" "Joy" ect. Two years ago, I really started jammin' his solo stuff after my pop got a live album by him, and I'm crazy for missing out on cat's solo material, RIP.

Yeah, I didn't catch that until some years back, now Harold Mel and the Blue Notes, I jammed constantly. I just never got into him as a solo artist until a few years back, better late than never ...

'Stephanie Mills Pays Tribute to Teddy Pendergrass'
EmailWritten by Jake on Jan-15-10 1:46pm

It was an emotional day on the Mo'nique show, as Stephanie Mills peformed a heartfelt rendition of her hit song "Two Hearts" in honor of the late R&B star Teddy Pendergrass. The two made the song a hit duet in 1981.

http://blog.taragana.com/...how-80519/

I wonder when this show will air? I would think Monday, Wed. at the latest?

Did anyone else noticed Mr. Pendergrass was sitting down the whole time during this video. "Two Hearts"? Ms. Mills being short and tiny.....if you put those two side by side standing up, you'd think he was the tallest man on earth and she was the shortess women on earth. lol Even so they pulled it off. You're welcome Timmy. smile

I was the same way. I remember my Uncle having his first 3 albums on 8-track and bragging how great Teddy was. I copied his 8 tracks on cassette and listened to them and felt like you. Teddy had some great trax/songs, but most of his albums were uneven to me.

Since I've gotten older, I have my favorite solo Teddy albums. Those are his first 2. After those, I just liked tracks.

I know some people say that song has been played to death, but I still LOVE it! I usually listen to it back to back whenever I play it. I love the end when he takes it to church as it fades out, and I'm not even religious. But the passion and emotion of it is just so real and soul stirring.

That performance was the truth! His vocals were sent from heaven. The band was on fire, and those back ups would shut down most solo singers in the game today.

A classic duet with Sharon Paige, "I Hope That We Can Be Together Soon." My mom wants me to burn her a cd with a collection of his songs. I'm actually surprised that I don't have a greatest hits at least. I know my mom has a few 45 records, maybe I'll dig through those and see if any of those will play.

Lookie here via Soulful Detroit website, I found a link and came across the Behind the Music episode. It's not on youtube so I don't know how to put it in the thread. Has anybody seen this before?

According to an article I read, there's a film in plans with Tyrese playing Teddy... Lord Tyrese will have to grow a beard and Afro, something I can't imagine him with. disbelief lol We'll see how that'll go along with the James Brown and Marvin Gaye biopics lol

I heard David's version for the first time when I got the GH compilation that has all of the solo hits of the temptations. I was really impressed with it. I especially David's emotional delivery of the song.

Let's face it. David was crazy, and this is what made his version great. He was the only one that could have done this song, justice.
