Here's another Teddy classic. "In My Time" is probably his most autobiographical song he ever recorded.

I've been a fan of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes AND Teddy Pendergrass my whole life. But why does it take someone like Teddy passing away for me to realize just how prolific their career was?!? SMDH Look at all these songs listed in this thread, from "love-makers" to "booty-shakers", so many memories held by so many people! Damn! Damn! Damn! Why can't I stop time so no one else has to die?!?

This has to be one of the most relevant and timeless recordings ever produced because of its message. In fact, it is very appropriate to what is happening in Haiti with the earthquake and its aftermath. Teddy's voice just graced every song and I am happy that he was able to leave one impactful legacy. He will never be forgotten... [Edited 1/14/10 11:10am] Oh yes, I agree. It's a fantastic song with an important message. They don't make 'em like these nowadays.

It makes me sad when I think of all the great singers who have passed away in the recent years. I realize that we all have to die sometime, but it truly saddens me when I hear of an awesome singer who is no longer with us. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

My mother is devastated about this news, and I've never seen her this devastated about a celebrity passing since Phyllis Hyman.
Just like any sista who lived her heyday in the late 70s/early 80s, she had a soft spot for Teddy Bear Pendergrass. God rest his soul, he's done suffering.

I just found out about this so late! I was just watching him in London on DVD in concert when he was not paralyzed! Wow, RIP Teddy Pendergrass!!! Didn't know he had colon cancer it's sad to see another great soul singer gone.
Teddy Pendegrass- It don't hurt now [Edited 1/14/10 15:59pm] The message you are about to hear are not meant for transmission. Should ONLY be accessed in the privacy of your mind. Words are so intense so if you dare to listen.Take off your clothes and meet me between the lines.

My brother called me last night at 2:00 am to ask me if I had heard of Mr. Pendregrass passing, this hurts. If any artist was the personification of the 'Philly Sound', it was Teddy Pendergrass. That man was so damn good looking, sexy, and had natural "easy" masculinity. Teddy's baritone voice and Gamble & Huff writing, the music kept on coming and always better than the previous release... something I guess we all took for granted. My favorite albums are.... I saw Mr. Pendregrass twice in 79', in the spring at a "Lady's Only' concert and again mid -summer. The mid-summer concert my brother and I reminisced about a conversation he'd struck up with two guys, in the mens room. These guys came out laughing, giddy.. talking with my brother. When I had asked what was so funny? He told me the guys were excited because they knew after a Pendregrass concert, this was a guarantee invite from ladies to come home. May Mr. Pendergrass R.I.P.

Yeah I know? He also had some great socially conscious stuff. The man wasn't just someone who made women throw panties, there was DEPTH to what he brought but yeah it sucks that it takes death to realize it.

I know. We are losing so many of our legends. Every time one of these musical giants makes the transition, I am quite saddened. With each passing, it signals the closing of an era to me. I do have to admit that I was a bit angered by how little attention was given to his passing, unfortunately not unlike many other black artists who have passed. This man was an absolute LEGEND. He had one of the greatest voices of all time. yet each blurb just says, "Soul Singer Teddy Pendergrass died." To me, and many others, he was more than just a "soul singer." At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. He was blessed with an amazing gift and we were blessed because he was able to share it with us. His music will live on forever. R.I.P. brother perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

The man wasn't just someone who made women throw panties, there was DEPTH to what he brought but yeah it sucks that it takes death to realize it. This is so true. I have always LOVED Teddy's music. However, today I just decided to listen to it all day. As I was listening, I was thinking the same thing. He was the whole package, and the content of his songs ran the gamut from love to sex to politics adn social consciousness to the dance floor. He was in the Marvin, Curtis, etc. vein that seems to have all but dried up as of late. I hate that people don't get their flowers until they die. It seems to take a death for us to stop taking some artists' work for granted and take notice of just how great they are. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I believe the news of his death has been eclipsed by the earthquake in Haiti. As a matter of fact, apparently there's NOTHING else going on in the world this week besides the earthquake in Haiti. Makes you wonder what they would have been reporting in the news had the earthquake not happened (...perhaps more on Teddy's death).
