Rude Boy is reported by numerous sources to be the third single taken from Rated R. All Access confirmed that the song will officially be released in the United States on radio on February 9, 2010. "Wait Your Turn" was going to be the third single, however, "Rude Boy" was later chosen instead.

Rihanna told Q magazine the song is "about the kind of street, bad boy that girls sometimes like. There's a danger and a swagger there." [4]

The cover for the single was released on January 8, 2010. On the cover, Rihanna is holding a banner with "Rude Boy" written on the front. It is covering her whole body but revealing her arms and legs. She is wearing a black hat and smoking a cigarette. On the right side of cover, there is a metallic 'R', used on the album cover, and all singles from 'Rated R'. [5] This continues the theme of semi-nude covers for Rihanna's singles, which began with Russian Roulette.

I actually like the arrangement of this song. It sounds like she was trying to sing like Beyonce, as if it were an outtake from B'Day or something.

I expect the video to be wack though. Matter of fact, they shouldn't even make a video for it.

Unlike "Hard" or "Russian Roulette," this will fit right in with Ke$ha and Lady GaGa on the radio.....bouncy dance music ....it's the worst song on Rated R, too.

The lyrics are crude but so is her image right now. And if they play "Every Girl" and "3" on the radio, they should have no problem with this mess. In other words, bleh.

She's not Prince, or Millie Jackson, so I have no idea how people will respond to this song once it's on TV and radio. I'm expecting some backlash...

I gotta admit some of the lyrics are cheesy and forgettable, however I think it is the best track on Rated R and if released as the first single would have saved alot of backlash. The chorus reminds me of a good 90's summer jam. Especially the way she sings "love me, Love ME!" desperatley as if she is definitley in need. And I like the use of the sampled male vocal in the background.
