"White people are so scared of black people...

they bulldoze out to the country and put up houses on little loop de loop streets. While America gets it's heart cut out of it's chest the Berlin Wall still runs down main street seperating east side from west..."

from SUBDIVISION by Ani DiFranco...

Actually paid attention to this killer track today...damn Ani doesn't hold back does she? I love her...

"...so we're led by denial like lambs to the slaughter serving empires of style and carbonated sugar water and the old farm road is a four lane that leads to the mall..."

i grew up with ani here in buffalo, and yes she rocks! she mirrors prince in so many ways it was only a matter of time b4 he worked with her. she's converting an old, beautiful church that was set for demolition herew in buffalo into a studio/soundstage. i hope to see prince play there one day as he had a great time here as a part of the ona tour.

UptownDeb

I've never listened to her. Maybe I'll have to start checking her out.

Since we're on the subject of race I used to think of Master's Ase's "Born to Roll" whenever I heard hip-hop music played loudly in public spaces:

Black boy, black boy turn that shit down
You know that America don't wanna hear the sound
Of the bass drum jungle music go back to Africa
Nigga I'll arrest ya if ya holdin up trafffic
I'll be damned if I listen, so cops save your breath and
Write another ticket if ya have any left and
I'm breakin ear drums while I'm breakin the law
I'm disturbin all the peace cause Sister Souljah said war
...
I wonder if I blasted a little Elvis Presley
Would they pull me over and attempt to arrest me
I really doubt doubt it, they probably start dancin
Jumpin on my tip and pissin in they pants and
Wigglin and jigglin and grabbin on they pelvis
But you know my name so you never hear no Elvis

You really think that's the reason so many white people live in subdivisions? Give me ten acres and I'll be happy, and it ain't because I want to get away from any particular race or class of people.

Well, I like Ani also, but i dont own none of her albums, but when i saw the video for "In Or Out" damn i rewound that video couple of times, by brother even liked it he thought the drumming was tight.

Well...I love being around ALL types of people, that's y i like living in inner cities, nothing far out or suburban 4 me.

And last but not least, from my experiences, i do think white people are scared of blacks in one way or another...I think we are born that way of thinking, the way whites & blacks are potrayed on TV and real life, really sets this statement.

I respect Her Business Savvy Ways more so than Her Music overall.I was Born in Buffalo&for Me Rick James is Top Dog of Buffalo.I dig some of Her stuff but She gets a little too preachy for me.but the title is true.we are the most Copied&Loathed People on the Planet Go Figure??

DiFranco is the REAL DEAL. There is no other female except Meshell Ndegéocello of her talent and capabilities within today's non-independent scene.

Wake up, people.

This very topic is one of the main thrusts of Michael Moore's doco, "Bowling for Columbine". Every intelligent person should see it. It's an eye-opener to say the least.
