I think you got it backwards when it comes to Brandy and her producers, after watching her singing "A change is gonna come", I discovered how much they repressed her talent instead of showcasing it. Monica was alright when she 1st started out(her 1st 2 albums were nice) but then she got into this "ride or die chic" persona that made her look/sound awkward.  Don't laugh at my funk

Monica and Brandy are equally both good singers imo as long
as they are singing the right material. Both singers will never be great or legendary in the mold of an Aretha,Gladys,or Chaka however. Don't laugh at my funk
