IF SELENA HAD LIVED.... Would she be the top female artist? Bigger than Mariah and Britney? Would gaga and whitney even have a snowballs' chance in hell or would she still be stuck on tejano music?

i love this girl. she would be bigger than mariah cause she could sing and dance and let's not compare her to generic britney. selena had it all she was young, talented and beautiful.she was just crossing over to mainstream US music when her life was cut short, it's really tragic especially since she was killed by someone she trusted. no doubt she could wipe the floor with brit but in terms of sex appeal and having catchy bubblegum tunes like britney, would she be bigger? actually i would compare her talent to christina but alas...brit outsold miss aguilera.
selena was turning into something major but i wonder how far she would have gone and if she would have the staying power or crossover appeal that some of todays popular female acts have. honestly i think perhaps her death and the death of aaliyah just opened the door wider for these other women.

I wish I had known about her before her death....
I wish she could have been appreciated by the mainstream before her death. I think she should have been a bigger star, but the market is soooo fickle.

She was very talented but I honestly don't think she would have had a big mainstream/pop career. I don't think most of us would even know her name if she had not been tragically murdered.

Totally agree. Her death made her famous to non-latin people. Sorry, but this is true. We can say the same about Aaliyah.

Honestly it could get either way, sure she wouldnt have that HUGE success out the box, BUT, the whole latin crossover thing she would have been a HUGE part of it at some point, if we dont think that people wouldnt have been all over her when they were all on Ricky and Marc's shit, i mean even Paulina Rubio scored a gold "english" record, so Selena would have fit right in, and probably outsold all of them just for the ballads. it's hard to say.
Soon after her first english single came out, she was murdered I remember hearing it on the radio and the djs kept talking about her. Then when she died they were all saying that she was a "star in the making". All I know is Jennifer Lopez owes her career to portraying Selena in that movie. I really wonder what Lopez' career would be like without that movie opening things up for her.

r.i.p. but theres was nothing special about her.....her voice was better than britneys though.....she probably wouldnt have took the pop route Atom Heart Mother

No. She would've worn an poorly-tailored catsuit to Dick Clark's Rockin New Year's Eve show and Jlo would be a waitress today. [Edited 1/6/10 22:06pm]

Well it's hard to say. I think she would have been the top international latin artist for sure. I think she would have done extremely well at the beginning of her crossover, but by now she would be kind of fading just like jlo.
She did have a great voice and great style though. I always wondered about her look for the English market. She just seemed to always dress the part for the kind of music she was singing. She had a better butt than JLO's that's for sure! Is it bad that I just say that considering she passed away like 15 yrs ago? [Edited 1/6/10 22:23pm] I am simply better than you...end of story.

At least she would have toured w/ Janet that one time, instead of pulling out early like.....well, like someone who does that sort of thing.

no doubt she would be on the same level or better than britney. the latin market was just becoming popular, then she passed and jlo took the slot and made being latina "in". what a shame. she was such a natural performer, you couldnt take your eyes off of her.

Well yeah, she would've still had the flygirl thing happen for her. But her career might have been way different. For one, there wouldn't have been a movie about Selena, which is really what crossed her over to a larger audience. Also had Selena crossed over as everyone said she was set to, she would've probably done what Jlo has (maybe more) so those shoes would already be filled. If Jenny had still hit it big she probably would have been looked at as a Selena wanna be.

If Selena would have lived, then J.Ho would be whining about night day shift at the Bunny Ranch instead of whining about how she deserves an Oscar I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

She would still be popular among the Latino community. She didn't get this type of exposure until she passed away.

maybe its cuz i listened to spanglish radio once upon a time. i liked her music and her image. she just seemed so down to earth/girl next door. then that bitch had to go and kill her. dirty rotten shame.
yeah she woulda been where J Lo is/was. Or she woulda been somewhat at Mariah's level.

the deaths of Selena and Aaliyah really bother because they seemed like such wonderful, intelligent, quality young ladies...no drugs or drinking or stupidity. What a huge loss for role models for young women!
