rocknrolldave said: . I have a love/hate relationship with this album. Basically the sound is god awful. Even a couple of attempts at remastering made little difference. I seem to remember Roger once saying it sounded like it was recorded in a toilet! Sadly I have to agree. Freddie's voice is only so so. Struggles in spots. I'm not sure what happened over the next few years, but his voice during the early 80's tours was amazing! The final big saviour of Live Killers, however, is Brian's guitar work. Brilliant. THE single best document proving that Brian was (..yes was) one of the greatest live rock guitarists to walk the face of the earth. I challenge anyone to listen to this version of 'Brighton Rock' and keep their jaw from dropping to the floor!

I stuck with officially released albums/EPs, and not dvds or bootlegs. I would have an almost entirely different list, otherwise. I would have to say OFFICIAL. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Big uh huh to Swiss Movement by Les McCann and Eddie Harris and Mad Dogs and Englishmen. I saw that Leon Russell band (without Joe) from nosebleed seats at a stadium in LA in '70 I think. Awesome show.
I also saw the Zappa Roxy & Elsewhere tour. Napolean Murphy Brock was an amazing frontman (well... FZ worked him like a puppet). I think he could have been a huge star on his own but for whatever reason he didn't go that way. He's stayed true to FZ by going around the world guesting and touring with just about every FZ tribute band there is... and there are a LOT of them as a youtube search will show you. He's got it all, singing, dancing, humor, charisma and he's a monster on sax and flute as well. Here are a few of my nominations. I don't know if this has any significance but I just noticed they are all recorded in various European locations: Aswad in their prime when they were still a roots music band, Live and Direct from the Notting Hill Gate Carnival 1983 England The Gladiators in Paris (available on French import only- pricey but worth it). Prisoner in the Street soundtrack from a film about Third World with their original lineup filmed in 1980 at the Rainbow therater in London. Maceo w/ Fred Wesley & Pee Wee Ellis live in Cologne, Germany in '92. Candy Dulfer sits in. This set just screams with high energy and the horns are super tight. Anybody know these guys? dZihan & Kamien Orchestra are a killer eurojazz unit. This set was recorded at a nightclub in their homebase of Vienna. You can hear the entire album by going to their website: http://www.dzihankamien.com/ clicking on Music and locating this artwork. It looks like it will sample you one song called 'After' but it will just keep tracking through if you leave it alone. [Edited 1/9/10 23:45pm]
