Stoppit! chair lol

I'm talking about the stuff our parents used to play that we used to snicker about till it kind of grew on us when we weren't looking and we ended up loving it. lol

Back in the day the when the grown folk would get together to drink and play cards and talk trash, us kids were supposed to be seen and not heard, so we watched and listened till bedtime. Then, when they thought we were asleep we'd sneak up on 'em to watch and listen some more. biggrin

Hi to all,

This is my first time posting. I will just say 09 was a bad year. Lost a parent, my job... Could go on but there are so many others that have lost things and people as well.
That said, I had to comment on this thread. When I tell you that my family would get together and party to music like Down Home Blues, B.B. King, and ZZ Hill to name a few. They did.
Even to this day the older people in my family will not listen to anything other than the "Down Home Blues". (Unless you are on the saved side LOL lol )

I remember the kids would all pile on the steps that lead to the basement and sometimes one of my aunts or uncles would pay us to dance with them.
BEST TIME EVER.
Thanks for reminding me Babynoz.

Hey I was grown too... lol My sister named her daughter after Sade. She's my favorite artist after Prince. Classic for sure! I'm waiting patiently for her new album to drop in February, and have been playing her single "Soldier of Love" constantly.

Welcome to the org. I lost my mother in 2007 so I know what you mean. She used to throw card parties many a Saturday night back in the 1990s. They would start around 7:00 or 8:00 at night and a few of them lasted as late as Noon the next day. There was plenty of smokin', drinkin, cussin, and talkin' shit. My mother wasn't a smoker or drinker herself but her friends sure were and I was a smokin', drinkin', shit talker right along with the rest of them. Beer flowing, fish frying in the kitchen, ash trays full, smoke filled room, lots of jheri curls drippin', and plenty of shit talkin'. And since my mother didn't drink, she was usually the one going to the store to make another "beer run". lol

Here's some more....

Welcome! Glad I could make you smile after such a rough year.

I tell ya, every other friday when the city workers got paid, my godmother and us kids would pile into Mr. Charlie's car and go to the liquor store so he could cash his check and get him a lil' taste. lol

We would sit outside in the car and my godmother would give us money so we could buy fish sammiches, potato chips and candy from the truck in the parking lot, lol Those old dudes would be sitting under the tree tellin lies, playing whist and jammin that down home music.

At my house only gospel was allowed on Sundays, but my mom and her friends played everything else during the week, sometimes we'd get a quarter just for dancing too...try giving a kid a quarter nowadays, LOL!

Here's another good one...

LOL..do NOT get me started on Saturday nights!

The smell of my grandmother frying chicken and fish competing with the smell of my mother frying our hair with the hot comb! lol People cussin each other one minute and laughing together the next.

I'm over here cracking up imagining you right in the middle of the action at your mom's house, lol Funny how we didn't need a lot of money to have a good time.

Here's a couple of my favorites...
