Christina Aguilera is Bionic

CAYou might be forgiven for actually forgetting that Christina Aguilera is still a player in the Rihanna/Gaga/Ke$ha-dominated pop game. Hell, even Britney Spears has put out two album since Xtina’s last studio LP, Back To Basics.

That said, Aguilera graces the February cover of Marie Claire. The article mentions that her new album, which is scheduled to be released in March, is titled Bionic.

As for tunes on Christina’s upcoming opus, there’s “Glam,” described by the writer as a “poppy, hip hop-inflected throwback to Madonna’s ‘Vogue’.” There are also three ballads she co-wrote with Australian “You’ve Changed” singer Sia—including one titled “Lullaby”—and the album’s “electronic” title track, “Bionic.” (Here’s hoping some of those collaborations with Goldfrapp actually made the cut!)

So has pop music moved on during the four years Aguilera has remained somewhat quiet, professionally? (And, yes, we’re well aware there was an exclusive-to-Target greatest hits collection out last year!) Either way, if things don’t pan out with Bionic, she’ll also be splashed across the big screen in Burlesque, an upcoming movie musical that features Cher and Stanley Tucci.

i'm looking forward to this one. i hope she goes easy on the current electro-pop sound though; and not try to imitate a certain pop star. as previously reported.

And it's a bulshit thing too. Someone is always going to end up looking like someone else, and not on purpose.

I kind of worry about CA's album. The two new songs on the Greatest Hits package were great, and she said it was an indication of her album. But a lot of artists, including Female Caca, have jacked that sound as well. CA didn't invent it, but she was on the band wagon a bit earlier, as far as mainstream artists go. I worry that she'll look like she's just jacking someone else's sound instead of really pushing into something that's a bit new, or had been underground to that point. Adam Lambert's music is that heavy synth pop (and we're not talking song quality, just the genre).

Ultimately, I look forward to her album. She took time out to have a baby, and I think she could have gotten back on track a bit faster. With 2.5 years being a decent average between albums (I think a smaller ercentage might be a bit less, closer to 2 years or even 18 months), she's late to release something, as Back To Basics was released in August 2006. So it's right at 3.5 years, and she needs to get back in the game. If the album is done, at least get a single out! The album is set for March - here's hoping that sticks.

10 years in the business, and only 4 albums. It was actually 4 years between Stripped and Back To Basics. She was also busy on other people's albums like Nelly, Shark Tale soundtrack, Moulin Rouge! soundtrack, Mulan soundtrack, a Christmas album, Diddy, and Ricky Martin.

Yeah and I remember both Caca and CA using the same terminology like "pop art" or "art pop" and "Andy Warhol" in relation to their music. Hence the comparisons....at least part of them.

Good for you, but let's leave it there cause I really don't want to turn this into a Gaga vs. Christina thread.

That's all.

Arnotts

I hope its a big improvement on her last album, I was so dissapointed in it. Even though she was in the right, she still made a big mistake not giving into Scott Storchs demands last time, as Stripped is such an amazing album thanks to him and Linda Perry. Back To Basics could have been amazing too as the Linda Perry tracks are great, but the others are mainly average.

Oh not it's not that at all. Someone brought up the comparisons w/ Caca and how one was jacking the other's style or whatever, so I was working from that notion alone. The media had picked up on that (plus some pic of CA in a white wig w/ black glasses a la Caca), and made it into something that doesn't exist. I think CA even said "Who is she? I don't even know her.." or something to that effect. She might have been right...if she was busy with life, she might not have heard about Caca at that point.

I'm all about the new album though. I can't wait to hear it.

I'm not a big fan of her, but I might check out the album because her producers and co-writers seem interesting.
I liked her doing the electro-pop stuff. I much prefer that to any hip hop R&B influenced stuff.

I can't wait for this album. Stripped was my favorite album. Back 2 Basics had some nice songs, but I just wasn't feeling the forced "urban" sound on some of the tracks. I did like the second disk with all the Linda Perry production a lot more. Keeps Gettin' Better was a nice track, but I couldn't stand Dynamite!

I heard that she will be singing lighter and softer on this next album. I hope it's true. She has a great voice but she needs to tone it down. Her over-singing ruins it for me.

I'm SOOOOO excited for this album! Her working with the likes of Santogold, MIA, Goldfrap, Ladytron and El Tigre just makes me know this will be my favorite album by her. B2B and Stripped are both decent albums, but I've always thought she would have one to knock out of the park, I hope its this one!

The thing is that everything that has a dance beat now will be said "to be gaga inspired" and it will burn out like every other HYPE phase, blah blah blah, i was hoping we could get on with a new decade and leave this whole, xtina is doing gaga and kesha is doing this and that, lets face it, its a fad, nothing more, just like Boyz II men inspired every bad 90's rb band and Bon Jovi inspired all the Warrants and Wingers, and Nirvana inspired all the shoot myself rock bands, its a phase and it will end.

Xtina started looking at dance/electro before Gaga busted on the scene ... she was inspired by Sia, Le Tigre, Goldfrapp, Ladytron, Lady Hawke and a few other people she's been working on for this project.
