Damn, I didn't know Charlie Wilson had prostate cancer Glad he is better. When did people start calling him "Uncle" Charlie, though? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I searched for it, but couldn't find it. I know there was a post where he discussed his foundation and how he stressed that men get tested. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Good for him for doing that. How long have people been calling him "Uncle Charlie"? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Since Snoop started calling him that when they did "Snoops Up Side Ur Head" in the mid-90s. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I think Charlie is just doing solo work. I LOVE his songs "Magic" and "No Words". His voice just gets better with age and he influenced many R&B artists.

I always thought his best solo work was his first one from '92...."You Turn My Life Around"....that one had TRACKS.
His records since have suffered from too many "guest spots" (like fuckin Charlie Wilson NEEDS guests) Funk Is It's Own Reward

This latest album is pretty weak. I do like the lead single (There Goes My Baby) and a couple of others, but I could do without the rest. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

His records since have suffered from too many "guest spots" (like fuckin Charlie Wilson NEEDS guests) I like that one too and he actually has a video for You Turn My Life Around. I actually like his 2000 cd Bridging the Gap best out of all his solo cd's. Absolutely,Another man w/Case,Without You,Him or Me,and Charlie's Angel are standout tracks. Another Man and Charlie's Angel are two ballads that will smoke anything off the Charlie Last Name Wilson and Uncle Charlie cds. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

His records since have suffered from too many "guest spots" (like fuckin Charlie Wilson NEEDS guests) To re-develop his sound he did. I think he should have used R. Kelly as an executive producer on this new album. R. helped him pick the right songs last time around. This time, he didn't hit the nail on the head. I got his 2000 album and I thought it was a good album, but something about it made me not like it. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

But there are others that stand above the crowd....they have a "timeless" quality that doesn't NEED "redevelopment". He's got a classic "gospel-operatic" quality to his voice that only needs great material & a tight band behind him. Had high hopes for his solo career....but the material has simply fallen short..never his talent. Sure hope he pulls thru.....all 3 of those brothers had to overcome some monster addictions from the 80's...he's struggled enough. Funk Is It's Own Reward

"There Goes My Baby" was one of the biggest songs on the Urban AC chart last year. His last album went Gold and I think the latest is selling pretty well thanks to "There Goes My Baby" and "Can't Live Without You". **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

"There Goes My Baby" is a classic cut; I love this song. Good to hear him in such great form. I saw him with Teena Marie in Detroit over Thanksgiving. His voice is on point. He spoke of his sobriety, and his recovery from Prostate Cancer; he also urged the men in the audience to have check ups. His show was a little cheeky, with some new-jack era suits and background dancers. But his voice is in great shape and he knows how to work a crowd, and pimp them Gap Band songs - wonderful show.
He kept sayin' "why am I opening up this show?" I was begining to wonder myself as he kept pushing the issue and kept on delivering a killer set; a professional rivalry on display. When Lady Tee came out and tore up the Fox Theater stage, we knew why he was opening up the show. At least on this particular night she was ruling with a strong voice in a perfect vocal performance, with a band that was throwin' it down hard. (As a long-term Starchild, even I was amazed by her performance. Charlie and Teena could really put something special together if they went into a studio.)
