I think Teddy is her only closest son. **** Actually she gave up Teddy to her the husband Ted White, Sr. as part of if the divorce settlement from him, as well as half of her publishing....Teddy went to college and graduated, because he was not raised by her. He was raised by his father an stepmother and had a fairly normal life - had jobs and was coddled at all. Clarence (in the mental home), Edward (the accused house burner) and Kecalf (once arrested for cocaine possession) have all been raised by Aretha. Eddie's marriage was anulled...Kecalf did take some editing classes and get married and has kids... to add to the family madness, youngest sister Carolyn, a proud lesbian, was put out of her father's home due to her sexuality and lived with a neighbor in Detroit.... It appears that lifestyle of a entertainer/musician and raising kids may not be all that compatible. Having said that, over the half of the young adults I've dealt with via the justice system their parents or parent aren't musicians. As much as my husband and I would like to take ALL the credit for our child being educated, decent, honest, and productive citizen - we did what we were suppose to do no big deal, but she did her part too. I know a lot of parents like me who did their part and their kid(s) are a pain in the butt... if not down right no good. Aretha sons are very good and grown, you can't keep blaming mommy nor daddy because you've made bad choices or can't get it together. As far a the house in Detroit.... mysteriously that case just disappeared. There were whispers Sista Franklin wasn't all that broken up about that house burning down, but who knows. ===== [Edited 1/5/10 15:20pm]

I agree with TD3 that bad parenting is bad parenting-it doesn't matter your profession. And parenting is really a luck of the draw.
TD3, can you elaborate re the house burning case "mysteriously" disappearing? Is Aretha mega rich or merely well off? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

TD3, can you elaborate re the house burning case "mysteriously" disappearing? Is Aretha mega rich or merely well off? It was about the same time Ms. Franklin owed IRS for back taxes; her house was insured for a tidy sum and it was thought maybe the house was burned for that reason. I think Ms. Franklin being who she was, the authorities nor the insurance company really didn't want to follow up on why and who burned down her house. Some believed if Ms. Franklin son did burn down that house, it wasn't of his own volition. In any case, I almost certain the insurance company didn't pay the claim. ===== [Edited 1/6/10 11:23am]

Side note: Popeyes is only good on the East Coast. It sucks ass on the West Coast. ***** Yeap he is alive and well. Last I heard he was involved in real estate in Detroit. He has made a pretty good living being listed as a co-writer on several of Aretha's early hit singles at Atlantic, and he received a sweetheart deal in the divorce: he got their son, the yacht and most of all the publishing on Pundit Music. "Think", "Since You've Been Gone", "Ain't No Way" and "Dr. Feelgood" are a few of the gems he gets big bucks off of. Music Royalty in Motion
