To get that reason, one would have to have the absolute truth, and the Frnaklin camp has always been a bit skimpy on that...so according to legend/folklore/rumor/hearsay/scuttlebum:

when said Hollywood type was caught in bed with certain subject - he of whom had introduced mommy dearest to thespian in the first place - mommy took earlier flight back to LA from Detroit and came home and caught legs up in the air in the master bedroom - mommy flipped out, commenced to using a two by four on said actor and told both peeps they had to get up out of her house - said son was disowned and became delusional - thought he was the son of Elvis (said stories made the rag magazines back in the early Eighties), he was hanging on the streets, living on them, had a skirmish with law enforcement at Ralph's Supermarket and he claims was beaten and abused by the police - he spent 30 days in jail and mommy dearest sent Uncle Simuel (Barbara's brother, whom live in LA and other family members from the Siggers side to visit him regularly - mommy couldn't do it because of her fear of flying...it is well documented that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, even one time allegedly attacked mommy deareast when she went to visit him in the mental home...

And that other son who burned her Cali home. I think Teddy is her only closest son.

****
Actually she gave up Teddy to her the husband Ted White, Sr. as part of if the divorce settlement from him, as well as half of her publishing....Teddy went to college and graduated, because he was not raised by her. He was raised by his father an stepmother and had a fairly normal life - had jobs and was coddled at all. Clarence (in the mental home), Edward (the accused house burner) and Kecalf (once arrested for cocaine possession) have all been raised by Aretha.
Eddie's marriage was anulled...Kecalf did take some editing classes and get married and has kids... to add to the family madness, youngest sister Carolyn, a proud lesbian, was put out of her father's home due to her sexuality and lived with a neighbor in Detroit....

WHOA! I didn't know Carolyn was a lesbian. eek And that's some b.s. for their dad to do that just because she's gay. disbelief I didn't know she gave Teddy up to Ted. Interesting. Wow. I guess she did Ted a favor because her family's FUCKED UP! Damn they make Marvin's family look like saints. disbelief

yeah that is some news of news. rumors like that don't go away unless they are unfounded. If Glynn was queer he would have been outed over and over like that Richard Chamberlain dude. And if he fucked his wife's son....lord that would have followed him to the grave and he would never find work within black hollywood.

Well let's put it like this. Since that TIME article in 1968 where they told of her mother abandoning her and her children, she has never trusted the media to leak out personal info so she must have some kind of power shield because they kept the stories of C.L. Franklin's infidelity and Glynn's alleged romp with her grown son from being leaked. If Aretha had existed in today's media, we'd hear it everywhere because the media back then wasn't as tabloidish though you had gossip magazines back then. Tabloids weren't major business until the late 1970s and even then Aretha always kept it hidden from the public. She still pushes that she came from a good upbringing but her upbringing sounds like a nightmare.

Aretha's story don't sound different from say Mary J. Blige's or Tina Turner's. It was just well hidden. Though there were the episodes of domestic violence with Ted White and her two arrests for alcoholism and disturbing the peace in the late 1960s.

You all are assuming that a sex act reflects a person's sexuality, that is not always the case.Glynn Turman is not a member of the lifestyle of gay or the sexuality of homosexuality. He just fooled around - it happens all the time.
The stories of this incident come from very inside sources (i.e. familiy).
The spin machine or lack thereof afterwards gave it credible legs.

The Glynn Turman story was great fodder for beauty chops and barbershops back around the time it happened. There was also a blurb on it with no names mentioned in the now defunct magazine called SOUL.
The original galleys for the book called QUEEN OF SOUL by Mark Bego was gonna mention it. The FROM THESE ROOTS book was totally re-typed by Aretha and her inner circles as to edit out things that David Ritz wanted to say. She asked him out of her home when he asked about the incest and romp by husband and son. Conclusion was it was being covered up. There was the rift with James Cleveland, whom was accused of having turned her seed out. People talk bad about Ted White Sr., but let's not forget, he was a victim too - during their marriage, she was with Dennis Edwards and Ken Cunningham. His physical altercations with Aretha are well documented, as in the time they tore up a hotel room in Philadelphia and the cops were called, as well as the time he shot Sam Cooke's brother whome he thought was having an affair with his wife Aretha. BTW Ted White was going with Della Reese, when he dipped over to the younger Aretha back in the day...ooops

Aretha has an expression, "Never tell all of it, only tell some of it".
She lives by that, and will die by that. Her inner demons will go to the grave with her.
She has had issues with Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Mavis Staples, Gladys Knight, Natalie Cole, Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Mahalia Jackson (whom she cussed out) Luther Vandross, her sisters and her cousin Brenda (most of whom were blasted in her book).
She hires, fires, throws what her former agent called, "hissy fits", and refuses to do anything she doesn't want to.
I guess in the end it all adds up to one helluva life experience. Precious pales in comparison to Miss Franklin.

When I first heard that story, that was my initial reaction. The press junket was that Glynn didn't wanna move to Detroit to live with Aretha. I think he was active on the California drug scene and he didn't wanna leave and that was the reason Ree Ree cut him loose but that could've been true that Glynn and Clarence had sex.

How old was Aretha's son when this allegedly happened? eek neutral

I believe in his mid 20s. I think this was in the early 1980s.

In the June 2007 issue of Sister 2 Sister Magazine, Aretha said: “I lost 23 or 24 pounds to begin with, but it’s kind of a strain when you get to 23 or 24 pounds. That’s why I got off of it. It’s a strain because you’re eating the Jenny Craig-type meals, which are very good. But you can only eat them for so long before you want some barbecue ribs or some pigs feet. Once you get off that Jenny Craig thing and you start eating what you’ve been eating, it’s all over.”

All that other stuff disbelief Poor Retha. I knew about her teen pregnancies and drug problems but dayum....she has had a rather sad life aside from the fame and money. Looks like she's traded several addictions for another. Doesn't look like she can be helped at this point. Just let her eat if it makes her feel good and keeps her sane. kfc wing sad
