For the best I would say the Material Girl video and for the worst I would say The Girlie Show tour.

The only time I thought madonna looked close to good was The Vogue video, but I give the credit to the lighting guy.

Best Look - Blond Ambition/Like A Prayer time.

Worst - American Life. The dark hair, the brooding pictures - who cares.

True Blue was a "clean up" period for her, getting rid of the messy hair, the bangles, etc. But by the time LAP came out, she had become fun, but a bit sophisticated in her style. Nicer, and longer hair, sexy but not slutty outfits (unlike the "Open Your Heart" video just a couple of years prior). Erotica was 50/50. I liked the Marilyn Monroe/bombshell looks in the SEX book, but hated the gold tooth and Heidi Goes Wild look. I liked the raw sexuality and softness of Bedtime Stories, but that was transitional to me as well, as she was preparing for EVITA eventually.

The cover of Ray Of Light is fucking spectacular, but her looks in some of the videos left me cold.

I also loved the pictures of her with the long hair in the Sex book too (on the beach, etc.)

Have you seen the Making Of The Sex book (1 hr.) video ?

Madonna and Steven Meisel put together a 60 minute video of footage from when they were making the book (kind of like an hour long Erotica video.)

It was released at the Sex book party and was only given to a few people. 10 years or so ago though it was "leaked" as a bootleg to the public. Some websites sell it on DVD and there might be some clips of it on youtube.

Worst look : The pointy bra look in 1991/92 (The I would fuck everything that moves and heres my pxxxy to prove it)

Best : The dark hair she got in the Like a Prayer video, she looked like the little lost Catholic girl, but yet she wasn't.

What I have always loved about Madge is her brazen individuality, how she dosn't care how anyone else perceived her and she just rammed sex in your face along with making some of the best pop/dance music and ballads ever.

worst look: when she performed 'the power of goodbye' at the emas - she had long greasy black hair with a middle parting and for some reason the gap in her teeth widened at that time too. yuck!

i've always referred to madonna as "mad donna." all of her looks are, well-----her own. she is an original.

to me, her madness is part of her formula.
madonna's madness is (luckily) contained by her inner connection to a secret muse that channels into her unique raw talent and creativity.
she reminds me of an explorer of ages past in that she is unafraid to move ahead into unknown terrain. if she trips over a gaggle of old roots and vines (referring to the bad press she garners from her perceived wrong choices), she just gets up wipes off the muddy mess and keeps moving forward.
then she bravely conquers the newly discovered frames and preceeds to recreate the landscapes from her minds eye. thusly she continues to paint the musical pictures for the masses to love or hate.

the woman is "bad, sic, wonderful, scary, bold, brazen, slutty, beautiful, original, and real."

what are her worst looks? when she seems satisfied with her now,
what are her best looks? when she's on the prowl for something new.

Best Looks:
1. Like a Prayer Video: Loved the entirely new look, quite the change from whose that girl.
2. Ray Of Light Video: Loved the long blonde curls!
3. Hung Up video: Love the Hair and the pink leotard!!!
Worst Looks:
1. Papa Don't Preach: never liked the greasy short blonde hair, never will.
2. Human Nature Video: As wonderful as a video as it is, the look would not work in any other situation

Best: Vogue video
Worst: Who's That Girl film

Best looks: Express Yourself, Ray of Light and Hung Up Video

Worst: True Blue, Papa Don't Preach, I'll Remember, the Girlie Show and basically anytime she had short hair. Don't cut your hair again Madonna!

that said, I think her best look was when she first began-that was as close to the "real" madonna as we'll ever know/get. Her worst look by far was the american life video

Best - curvey post baby look

Material girl (really ash blonde and still curvey) look

Oh and of course the Justify My Love/over plumped lips look



I can think of quite a few more like the Take A Bow, You’ll See and Frozen filmclips, but these are probably my favourite.

As far as worst looks, there are far too many to name, but judging by the fact that I could barely find any flattering pictures of her in my favourite looks, I’m guessing Madonna just doesn’t photograph as well as she is captured on a moving camera. She happens to pull off even some of the most hideous get ups on film, whereas in photographs she looks as bad as anyone else would, maybe even worse.

Arnotts, I know exactly what you mean about Madonna looking better on film versus her in stills. I think EVERYONE looks better on film though than in photos. Much better actually.

The bad thing about still photographs is that your picture could be taken at a bad angle or when your face is animated in a weird position (ie: smiling or laughing strangely, etc.) and that is all you get to see.

Whereas on film your every angle and facial animation is there. So you can look at the person much more thoroughly. Overall I think the only fair way to judge a person's looks is when they are in motion.

Anyone else agree?
