Janet's Make Me is #1 on Billboard's Dance chart

probably old news to many but i didn't see a thread on here about it. good for her. i know comps don't sell that well, but she can count it as another #1. maybe it'll affect the tone and production of the new album

I doubt it. Most times, artists have so little to do w/ compilations, but obviously Janet had an input on this one more directly. I don't think the success or failure of a Greatest Hits package would really influence any artist on an album of all new material. The album is already in the works anyway, and is due for an early-mid 2010 release. I'm already anxious for it.

It's #1 for the 2nd week too. It also is at #16 on the Global Dance chart.

I'm glad to hear that. It's definitely because of the coupling of the new song, and some songs she's never released on a set before, and even different mixes. I've never heard that mix of "The Best Things In Life Are Free" until Number Ones came out. I quite like the set. Sure some nuggets are missing, but that happens. Maybe she'll do an awesome box set in another 10 years or so. She'll be 50-ish, and a good time to do that. For now....I'm happy with the set, and that it's doing well.

Now if we can just get a really comprehensive DVD set for the videos. Why isn't RN1814 movie/making of released? It was at one point, coupled with RN1814 album (CD/DVD combo), but it disappeared as quickly as I saw it. Same with the janet. VHS that has yet to pop up on DVD. These are excellent chances to do a CD/DVD remastered combo.

Yea, It's also moving up the Adult R&B and R&B/Hip-Hop charts. So that's good. I don't think she intended for it to go anywhere (except for the Dance charts - with all the remixes) since it wasn't officially released to radio. "The Best Things In Life Free" on the #1's album is the original version. I hope she does a box set too. That would be awesome! She did say that she would release the RN1814 tour and janet. tour on DVD. I guess she needs to obtain the rights first.

Come on, you know they wouldn't touch this song with a 10ft pole. It's a bit too club-ish for them.

I heard Make Me on the radio one day and I couldn't believe it. Any song that fast and that good isn't getting played anywhere but in the clubs and most definitely not on an R&B station.

I've heard it once on the radio. That was during the Walt Baby Love countdown show one Sunday on the way to church. Other than that, R&B radio won't touch a dance song anymore.

I was hoping this song would catch on with pop radio, but no such luck.

What a shame. I almost feel like a song NOT making it to R&B radio is actually a good thing.

I hope Janet starts to move in a more dance oriented direction, Feedback was a great song, but its the only song I've loved of hers since The Velvet Rope. I think she's played out R&B for too long now.

All Nite (Don't Stop) - R&B Junkie - I Want You <--- that's a great mini EP in the middle of the Damita Jo album.

"Come On Get Up" was screaming for remixes, but it never happened. Still a great dance song.

But yeah, besides those, she's not had a really GREAT dance song for a while. Very catchy and memorable numbers but.....well...yeah.

I'm sure she will. Janet knows what works for her. LA Reid wanted her to go the R&B direction and Janet wanted a more dance oriented album. Reason why she left the label. Also Damita Jo was her down tempo album with some up-tempos.

Yea, Janet wanted COGU to be the next single after AFY but Virgin records dropped the bomb on Janet and stopped giving her promo money. That's why she stopped promoting the album. AFY was selling like hot cakes around the release. I recall it was well past 2x platinum in the states a month after release. I don't know what made them think it wouldn't sell more. I bet it would've sold more than the TVR album did. But yea COGU does have official remixes.

Yep, I know the story. It's too bad too. She should have stayed independent, but she's back with A&M now. Although they did well for her, so maybe they'll do well again. They always seemed to have a good relationship w/ her, it seemed, even after she left. AFY was promoted a lot because there's like 3 versions of that album. Regular, Clean, and CD/DVD combo, plus the tour video, and a buttload of mixes for the title track. Even her site let you remix one of the Thunderpuss mixes. Eh well.

That's probably just add's mostly. Any word on the number of spins the song is getting?

According to AllAccess.com, the song only got one new add and that was WCCG in NC. They only played it once.

They also have it at number 41 on the Urban AC chart. It was 33 last week. The spins dropped by 65. Maybe it will increase in the next few days (since Christmas is over).
33 41 JANET JACKSON Make Me 92 157 -65 0.888

I'm not trying to hate, but Urban AC radio won't touch this song in a major market.

Programmers seem to think that r&b is this neo-soul crap that has been popular for the last 10 or so years. If you look at the Urban AC chart (on All Access), you'll see nothing but slow songs.

I have talked to a few programmers and they all say the same thing. They all say a song doesn't fit their format. A lot of them had a hard time playing "Million Dollar Bill" from Whitney. They said it was too "disco" and too "club". It's one of the few songs that actually has tempo on Urban AC stations.
