Have u noticed that 99% of everything named here is east coast stuff? Gangsta rap had its peak with the Chronic etc., most of the stuff afterwards just can't mess with the classics!

Outside of Dre Productions very few west coast whole albums were good. Just loads of stacking funkadelic sample (out of tune, different keys and all) I am not dogging because I bought loads of that stuff when I was young but very few classic ALBUMS in honesty. Maybe Pharsyde, souls of Mischeif but outside of that few classics from the west. [Disclaimer I am not dissing west coast rap by no means] IMO Nation of Millions is the best hip hop album of all time. With perhaps NWA straight outta Compton coming in second. That whole era was classic. People more time into albums then. Now it is all formula step one get a hot producer Step 2 makes songs like these 2 club bangers 2 r &b joints 2 hood songs 2 dogging women songs 2 sad (my life in the ghetto) songs 2 bragging about how good your life/swag is So it is hard to make a classic with that formula.NOT ONE classic album follows that formula

Yes that, sir!
I didn't mean to bring up that odd media-hyped east vs. west thing at all. Just an observation. Same here with the west coast stuff btw, i picked up everything when i was younger, and i still love and cherish the albums and the memories attached to them. But looking back, asked about "classic rap albums", i'd mainly name the 80s / early 90s east coast stuff, too. NWA sure put out some classics, Dre, Ice Cube, etc.. Geto Boys (east? west? south! ) did, as did Scarface... But in the end, it's all Rakim, EPMD, PE, Gang Starr and the likes for me. Funny you mention the Hieros and Pharcyde, both more leaning towards the "dry" east coast sound, don't they?

I have to say.. I return to the Group Home album very often considering the lyrical grade on it. Sometimes it is more about how the album plays in sequence too. I tend not to skip anything on it.
Trust I return to this album the most out of any DJ Premier production. [Edited 1/21/10 6:22am]

All the BEST rappers are from the East Coast. 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, Wu Tang, LL Cool J, EPMD, Run DMC et al. (too many to name.... ) don't hate.
