Andy throwin' down live in a gay club in the early 1990s.... I was going through a box of old cassettes last week and came across one that I recorded one night when I had my one and only DJ gig in a gay club called Sugarbaker's back in the early 1990s. What can I say, the manager and owner were big "Designing Women" fans.
Anyway, I recorded the cassette onto a CD, put it in the computer, sent it to sendspace and here it is for you. The bass is a little strong but that's how we used to do it. We almost blew the speakers several times. Here's the link.... http://www.sendspace.com/file/uvpnc4 Tell me what you think. Andy is a four letter word.

You know that was B. Angie B.'s cover right? No, I didn't realize that. I know it was almost hard to make out as the original, but I thought that was just creative mixing on Andy's part.

I'm so glad y'all enjoyed it. I had some good times in my short time there. The pay wasn't worth a damn but I hoped someone would come in and "hear me" and offer me something better. Yeah right, like somebody important is gonna come in a gay club in Mississippi that is trying to compete with the main black gay club across the street. This was probably around 1994 or 1995 and if you notice, a lot of those songs were old for the time. The owner previously had the white gay club which was closed at the time and he had another white club opened across town. Rather than just letting the building sit empty, which it had for a while, the manager convinced him to open it up as a black gay club to compete with the main one across the street. The owner had an old house that he stored the records from the previous white club in and I went in with him and picked out some of the hottest black records he had in the house (which were already old), then we had someone drive to Atlanta and get a few current records (since vinyl was extinct in Mississippi at that time unless you ordered it like the other club did).
Anyway, the club did OK for a little while. Well, actually it did great a (people are always going to come out and check out the new club). But like I told them, once the new wears off, you better get some new records or people will go right back across the street (which they eventually did). There was another DJ which didn't make matters any better. He was a DJ that DJ'd parties so he brought his CD players up there and hooked them up along with a lot of his CDs. Naturally, I wasn't going to touch his stuff so I continued playing the records they had, plus I wasn't about to bring any of my personal stuff up there. You're the club dammitt, you supply the music, Andy ain't nobody's sucker. Anyway, I quit after a few months because the other DJ was getting most of the play (naturally, he was bringing his own shit up there and saving them money). Also, as the crowd got bigger, the club started staying open till damn near daylight and I had my main job at a convenience store at the time which I had to be at at 2:00 p.m. I found myself waking up around noon and barely having enough time to get ready and go to work. I went to the club a few weeks after I quit and B Angie B was performing (she was a cousin of the manager, she's originally from Mississippi). That brought a big crowd out. I went back a few weeks later and one of the DJs from the club across the street was throwin' down. I asked where the other DJ was and they said they fired his ass because he wouldn't mix (he never did mix, he just supplied the CDs). Well, I know those whores, they like mixing so I figured he wouldn't last long. I did have fun saying...."I told you so...." Andy is a four letter word.

Thats the pulse, honey I love it, Andy got more stuff? Oh, I got plenty other stuff. Not from the club but I do have plenty other stuff. Here's one I did for my best friend's 40th birthday party a few years ago. Some of the jams are mixed and some them aren't but they are old jams from the 1970s and 1980s that were drag favorites in my area. I tried to keep the feel of the "old bar" going (which was before I came out) but I heard the stories of the old drag queens at the old bar before it burned to the ground. Rumor was that former governor Bill Alain had it burned down when the drag queens said they had evidence of him inside that club. Bill Alain had made national news when he was running for governor in 1984 for picking up drag queen hookers. Anyway, I knew I was going to party full of the old whores from the "old bar" which everyone said was the baddest club they had ever been into. It had formerly been a black theater during segregation times and in the 1970s and 1980s they had turned it into a gay club with the dance floor down in the orchestra pit with a glass dome on top of it and the whores were all up on the stage dancing and the old dressing rooms were fuck rooms (which is where they said there was proof of the former governor before the club burned down. ) Anyway, I tried to recapture the feel of that era with some of the jams they mentioned the queens used to perform (even though I wasn't there). And those old whores, or should I say madames still performed even after I came out to the new club. Here's the download.... http://www.sendspace.com/file/zeaoa4 Andy is a four letter word.

While you were at home in bed all nice asleep and the wives in their beds asleep with their cucumbers and face masks over their eyes, the whores were out lolly-gagging with the huzbands till all hours of the night.
