leecappella said: DONNA SUMMER - I cannot pinpoint one song that made me notice her. However, hearing her sing in falsetto on Love To Love You, Baby and then in full voice on other tracks I'm sure caught my interest. I was a young boy, so it probably wasn't until Bad Girls came out that I really fell for her. Sure ,there was Last Dance and the Thank God It's Friday movie and other songs before 1979's Bad Girls and they all made me fall even further into Summer fever. Her voice was (and still is) amazing. The way she could sound so different from one song to another got my full attention. Listen to Love To Love You, Baby and then When Love Cries and then jump to Hot Stuff, Dinner With Gershwin, Night Life, and The Wanderer and don't forget Sometimes Like Butterflies. Girl can sang and even make you think she's a different singer on occasions. If you don't own any Donna Summer songs at all, you are missing out. And if you don't have various tracks by her that display her vocal versatility outside of dance music, you are REALLY missing out.
[Edited 12/23/09 15:37pm] 'Love to Love You Baby' Then, 'Four Seasons of Love'(Listened to it the other day-beautiful as ever). Still enjoy her through 'Crayons.' I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

A radio station would play 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' every morning at 7:00 a.m. The song they played at 7:00 am they would play for the whole month at the same time. Once I knew the song, when I heard it I would get up and get ready for school. I was supposed to call a classmate (whom I had a crush on) and wake her up at 7:00 so she could ride with me to school. At 7:00 on the dot when I heard Prince I jumped up and ran to phone. I kept dialing and the line was busy. Meanwhile, I'm listening to Prince and realize this guy knows just what I'm going through. After school I bought the 45. Listen to the B side, bought the album. Bought 'For You.' The next year came 'Dirty Mind,' and once again, this man knows what I'm going through. We were homies. Nice story! I have a similar story but about another artist.

Janet Love Will Never Do (Without You) (song and vid) I think I was about 7 years old. I fell in love with her. But You off TVR album sealed the deal. She called me out before I even knew I was gay. Prince My uncle gave me the Purple Rain LP for my 9th birthday and I played it to death!! Literally. When Doves Cry made me a fan. Rick James- Super Freak, i was born in 1990 so i actually heard the MC Hammer version first so once i became aware of rick i was instantly hooked.
Prince-1999 is the first song i remember hearing from him. i then proceeded to check out his other meterial. The Bar-Kays- Tripping Out was on a mix cd my friend had in his car and i proceeded to download more tracks once i got home. actually i didnt hear any of the stuff they put out post propositions until the recent months. i like everything they put out in the 80s more than anything else they did. Larry Dodson is one of my favorite vocalists of all time. James Brown- I feel GOOD! The Time- I heard jungle love first but i wasnt totally into them until i heard Cool. Mazarati- 100mph had me interested in the group and once i heard shes just that kind of lady i was on a mission to find everything they released. Jesse Johnson- Be your man/Lets have some fun. his first album is a certified classic imo Andre Cymone-Livin in the new wave. Midnight Star- No parking on the dance floor. Roger Troutman- Do it roger [Edited 12/26/09 22:25pm] You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

Prince - "Let's Go Crazy"
Wendy & Lisa - They were already a shoo-in by the time they started releasing their own stuff. All they had to do was not screw up. Dead Can Dance - "The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove." Suzanne Vega - "Luka" is probably the first time I took notice, but 99.9F sealed the deal. Bjork - I first really took notice of her on the track "Vitamin" from the Sugarcube's final CD, even though I'd heard and not particularly liked their earlier stuff. When she dropped Debut I loved it all and became an instant fan. XTC - "Senses Working Overtime" was the first time I'd heard and kinda liked them, but the entire CD Nonsuch is what hooked me. Joni Mitchell - I fell in love with all of Songs to a Seagull the first time I heard it. Vanessa Daou - I really enjoyed the entire debut album by her and her husband's band (fave song was possibly "Sympathy Bouquet"). When she dropped her first solo CD, then, I was all ears. Beatles - I've got no idea when I started loving them. Meshell - She had me at her first single "If that's your BF." Jose Gonzalez - "Time to Give Someone Away" was just fair to me, but interesting enough to make me fish for more. When I heard his cover of "Teardrop," he had me. MJ - Who Is It (I remember seeing that video with all the clips of his past music videos and wow. I was a fan for life from that moment.)
Prince - Lemon Crush / Trust (I never realized those awesome songs from Batman were by Prince until I was a teenager, and once I realized that, I got into him.) Matchbox Twenty - Push Seal - Kiss from a Rose George Michael - Careless Whisper (My mom always played that song and got me hooked on it.) Huey Lewis & The News - Hip to be Square INXS - Wild Life Billy Joel - River of Dreams (Use to hear it on a tv commercial for a radio station, and I could not get the chorus out of my head. One of my teachers in middle school had the CD and let me listen to it. Loved it and got into him and other albums of his after that.) [Edited 12/28/09 10:49am] MJ Fan 1992-Forever
